FOUR wheel drive access to South Beach at Dunbogan, off Scarborough Way, has been closed following severe beach erosion.
Large swells and high tides experienced over the past week has resulted in a large amount of sand being washed away from the beach leaving a 1.5 metre sand cliff at the 4WD access point.
Council’s Acting Manager of Parks and Recreation, Liam Bulley said,”We have had to close the access for safety reasons. A significant amount of sand has been eroded leaving a dangerous drop.
“The area has been fenced off until the sand replenishes naturally.
“There have been a number of incidents of beach erosion in the area over the past 12 months. Pleasingly nature has done its thing and the beaches have recovered quickly,” Mr Bulley said.
Alternative access to the beach is available via the Diamond Head Road Beach access point.
