GET set for a return to good family fun on Saturday February 6 with the Camden Haven Showtime Parade and entertainment.
Following the huge success of last year’s Bold Street Parade the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce and the Show Society decided to kick off the annual show with another street parade through Laurieton.
However those community and sporting groups wishing to be a part of the 2010 Showtime Parade should act fast to get their registration form in.
Parade organiser, Betty Boyd says that places are filling up fast and to avoid disappointment, clubs and groups should get their registrations in now as time has nearly run out.
Last year’s Showtime Parade was a huge success and has been moved back into the cooler part of the day this year to maximise comfort levels for those viewing the parade.
Businesses, sporting clubs and community groups flooded the inaugural event with plenty of colour, fun and smiles and Ms Boyd is hoping for another great event.
“We’ve planned it so there are two hours of entertainment for everyone to come down and see,” Ms Boyd said.
“Bold Street will be closed from 4pm and we’ll have some dancing, singing kid’s activities and a few challenges for the adults as well right along the main street between 4 and 5pm.
“After that, the parade will be officially opened by the Kendall Showgirl of 2010 and the floats will slowly filter through and wave to the crowd - it really is a great sight and a great way to celebrate the many and varied activities and entertainment we have here in the Camden Haven.”
“Why not make a night of it and head out after the street parade to the movies, out for dinner in Laurieton, or out to the Laurieton Hotel or Services Club who’ll have entertainment as per normal to make it a great night all round,” Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce Events Committee chairperson Gordon Wiegold added.
Ms Boyd said anyone interested in being a part of the parade only needs to get a few people together to dress a float and fill out the registration form and adhere to the guidelines so that the float section runs as smoothly and safely as possible.
“People ignored some simple things last year like failing to turn up with their float number clearly displayed in their windscreen and you’d never guess how difficult that makes it for our wonderful marshals, volunteers and the SES who do a wonderful job bringing it all together.”
Street Parade registration forms are available for a short time only at the Camden Haven Courier office with official applications closing on January 29 - but the vacancies are filling up fast.
Floats and marchers have the chance to win prizes in six categories this year: Most Humorous; the Most Original; the Most Colourful; the Best Junior Float and the Best Green/Recycled float, Best Marchers and Best Overall entry.
The Parade is proudly supported by the Camden Haven PAH&I Society and the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce with great support from Country Energy, the SES, Port Macquarie Hastings Council and the Bold Street business precinct.
