THE Camden Haven Show Society always likes to come up with something new to entertain visitors at its annual show. Again in 2008 there are new attractions sure to please attendees from all walks of life..
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Show, so history is the theme of the show weekend on 9th and 10th of February. Come along and see Australia’s Living History. There are presentations running throughout both days of the show. Learn how our early pioneers survived and some of the skills they required. Get involved and be informed. Fantastic fun and entertainment for all the family.
While you are in the mood for history, check out the Diamond Anniversary exhibition a display of memorabilia from past shows in the Camden Haven.
Saturday entertainment begins with the dog show at one end of the showground, and the baby show at the other. When the babies have all been judged, the chainsaws races can begin. As well as racing to cut as many discs as possible in the allotted time, they also compete to cut and split posts.
The official opening of the show will be at around 2pm, with Mark Vaile, member for Lyne doing the honours. The national anthem will be sung by 14 year old Anna Tickle.
Additionally, Saturday’s programme includes the vintage agricultural machinery display (our own rustic rally) and the beef cattle judging.
On Saturday evening, the Mad Cow will provide plenty of fun for riders and spectators alike as the mechanical bull rodeo competition gets underway. Hang on as long as you can to win the cash.
Relax or dance through the night as you are entertained by local band Blue Mud. They will be performing from 7pm till late.
The fun doesn’t stop on Saturday. Come along on Sunday for more action.
The woodchop is always popular, cheer for you favourite competitor. Sunday also sees the chooks in their revamped pavilion for the poultry competition. However the biggest drawcard on Sunday is the Demolition Derby at about 6pm.
Camden Haven Show is pleased to be able to present a full two days of horse events although with the advent of the equine influenza it was looking very doubtful for a while. The Camden Haven Show is one of the few in the area to include horses in 2008. There will be showjumping and all the usual horse events on both days and the Australian feature stockhorse show on Saturday.
Pavilions open from 9am to 5pm to display all the entries in the various competitions. Be amazed by the talents and imaginations of some of our exhibitors and see how your own entries fared. When you are admiring the biggest pumpkin, don’t forget to look at the big fruit and vegetable displays that have been donated by local producers and retailers and enter in the giant fruit and veg raffle. The Mad Cow will be on site again this year, ride yourself or dare a friend. There will also be a great choice of sideshow rides. On Saturday buy a $15 wristband and enjoy unlimited rides. On Sunday the ride prices will be at the operator’s discretion.
A large range of food and drinks will be available. With canteen fare, the BBQ hut, the licensed bar and carnival food stalls you will find something for everyone.
As you wander round the showground, visit the various stalls and see what they have for sale. Also see the displays put together by some of our local community groups like the Rural Fire Brigades and Landcare.
No matter what you enjoy in a country show, you will find it at Kendall showground in 2008.
