ERIN Tunbridge is one step closer to pursuing a professional career as a choreographer, teacher and a dancer in the realm of creative arts.

Formerly a student of Camden Haven High School, the 20-year-old said she decided to move to Brisbane three years ago to continue her studies at the University of Technology in Queensland.

"I am currently studying Bachelor Creative Industries (dance) and a Bachelor of Education (secondary).

"I began full-time dance studies in 2006, I am now into my teaching degree and loving it," she said.

Erin continues to extend her creative abilities through a dance group that she initiated to express the different art forms of dance within Australia and beyond.

The young choreographer said the Zeta dance group aimed 'to extend the awareness of dance, enhancing the cultural centre within Australia.'

"There are three pieces in the show, I am performing in one," she said.

"Through performance and choreography I explore dance as an art form and as a communicative tool, working with both contemporary dance and Latin-American dance styles," she said.

"We are all independent artists expressing ourselves through the art of dance.

"Half of the dancers within the group have never done any ballet or contemporary dance before, so this has been a challenging though extremely rewarding experience for me to choreograph on these bodies."

Erin said she plans to continue teaching the group, which caters for a range of dancers from beginners to professionals.

"I aim to continue the group by offering community classes exploring the choreographic processes that I undertook to create the show," she said.

Although she admitted to being inspired by well-known contemporary dancers and choreographers, such as Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham, she also proved she had no trouble transferring her thoughts from mind to masterpiece.

"I take a lot of the movements that I create from literal shapes that I can see outside of the dance studio that are aesthetically pleasing and it interests me to think of how those shapes could look on a human body," she continued.

For those interested in seeing Erin in action, along with fellow dancers, the Zeta Dance Group will be performing on November 7 and 8 from 6.30pm on Level two in the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, Brisbane.

Tickets are $14 per person, and can be purchased online at www.judithwrightcentre.com.au or at the door.
