INDEPENDENT candidate for Lyne, Rob Oakeshott, this week marked his retirement from State politics by reassuring residents of Herons Creek and surrounds that the Peaking Power plant has been officially put to rest.
“My second-last act as State MP was to sign about 500 letters confirming the Herons Creek Peaking Power Plant was officially dead,” Mr Oakeshott said.
His final act as State MP was to help celebrate the amalgamation of Laurieton United Services Club and the Camden Haven Golf Club.
"As my retirement was made official in Sydney on Wednesday, I was driving down the Highway to Taree to nominate as a federal candidate for Lyne and on the way, I dropped in at the Camden Haven Golf Club,” Mr Oakeshott said.
“It gave me great pleasure, as the final act in my 12 years in State Parliament, to join with the boards of the two clubs as they finalised their Memorandum of Understanding for the future amalgamation of the clubs.”
Mr Oakeshott said he expected the agreement would signify a “big step forward for the two clubs”.
He now looks forward to campaigning for more doctors for the Camden Haven region in the Federal role.
