Medical services for local residents will receive a huge boost with the extension of the Lake Cathie Medical Centre.
Work on the $1.2 million extension will start in the next couple of weeks after receiving a Federal Government grant for $550,000.
“Council has approved the DA and we’ve put in a construction certificate with council,” GP Sam Nelapati said.
The new construction will include five consultation rooms, a radiology department, a dental surgery and a bigger physiotherapy office.
The centre’s manager Nicole Lewis-Bain says it will be a one stop medical service.
“We don’t have any other medical facitities in the area at the moment. We expect to have patients coming from Port Macquarie,” she said.
The centre now has a mental health nurse, Natalie Scaysbrook, who is very excited about getting her own practicing room.
“I’m working towards getting some mental health support groups going in the community,” she said.
The extensions aim to provide a top medical service for patients in the local area and take some of the load off Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
“A lot of people who would go to the hospital now for minor things will be able to come here,” Dr Nelapati said.
