A fire which police suspect was deliberately lit has destroyed the amenities block on Big Brother mountain.
Police are calling on anyone who saw a vehicle on the mountain road leading up to Big Brother early on Thursday morning to contact Laurieton police.
Royal Fire Service and Bush Fire Brigades from Laurieton and Bonny Hills attended the fire at about 7.45am and found the amenities block well alight.
This latest fire which caused around $60,000 damage is proving very frustrating for the local National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
“It’s going to cost a lot of money to replace. There will be a huge amount of inconvenience for visitors,” Ranger Andy Marshall said.
The NPWS has reported seven other acts of vandalism in the local area over the past three months including four fire incidents.
“It’s quite upsetting. There have been a number of facilities damaged in a relative short space of time,” Ranger Marshall said
The heat from the blaze at the amenities block at Big Brother was so intense it buckled the steel frame work and left a terrible mess of the plastic composting toilets under the block.
“All the fibreglass materials are destroyed and it may be some time until the facility is replaced,” Ranger Marshall said.
