A group of close friends are leaping to action to support one of their own in need, with the goal to ‘Overturn Motor Neurone Disease’.
“Motor Neurone Disease is one of those diseases we’ve probably all heard of but know very little about. As is often the case, it’s not until someone close contracts a serious illness that we decide to find out more about it,” said Kim Gregory.
A close friend, Anne Overton, contracted Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and while the MND Association of NSW offers assistance to sufferers of the disease and their families, the association is only partially funded by State and Federal Governments. They rely heavily on donations to continue their work. MND often begins with weakness of the muscles of hands or feet and eventually leads to general paralysis of the entire body with a limited life expectancy. The causes of MND are unknown and there is no cure. To bolster the community’s awareness of this disease, a Fundraiser Awareness night ‘Overturn Motor Neurone’ is being organised for Saturday December 5 at the Camden Haven Golf Club. An auction including sporting memorabilia, an original oil painting and other items will be held with raffles, numerous giveaways, and entertainment. All proceeds to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
“It’s also an opportunity to catch up with Anne and see the effect Motor Neurone has had on her and her family,” Kim said.
“Ray Hadley, the media personality and staunch supporter of the MNDA has offered his support and mentioned the evening on air - some of you may have heard it!”
