The cowboys were happy with the venue as was the stock contractor and the event attracted a crowd in its thousands from far and wide, most of whom stayed for the whole afternoon despite the extreme heat.

However there were plenty of food and refreshments on hand and the carnival atmosphere ensured a good time was had by all.

Many of the nation’s best riders took on the purpose bred bulls and broncs from the Matt Adams stable. Best riders included David Mason, Luke Morgan (ABCRA finals champions), and Tim Richardson, Ben Lees (ABCRA champions).

Kids got involved too in the barrel racing, steer riding and poddy rides. Spectators were amazed at how such tiny kids had full control of their steeds. Junior riders included Bianca Hertel ABCRA champion and Courtney Hallam Champion cowgirl, along with Braith Nock and Dana Jane Nock ABCRA Champions.

The Camden Haven Show Society volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the afternoon and evening which kicked on until 8pm after the conclusion of rodeo action with entertainment by local band Martini Brothers.

Jason Bignell, principal of Kew First National Real Estate, major sponsors of the event was delighted with the community support for the event.

“It was a bit of a gamble staging a bucking event of such quality and a good crowd was essential to its success” he said.

‘Well we got just that and the Camden Haven Show Society’s rodeo committee should be congratulated on their foresight”.

All money raised from this huge event will go back to showground facilities enabling the continuation of not only this event but also the local Camden Haven Show and many other community events that are held at the grounds.

“The Showground is in dire need of repair and ongoing maintenance” said show Society president Ron Porter.

Also popular on the day was Side Show Alley, pony rides and of course the evening entertainment where the cowboys got to exchange a few stories of their times in and out of the saddle.

Mr Porter said that due to the success of this inaugural event, the Show Society was hopeful of making the rodeo a regular event.
