THE most important component in updating the 2000 Village Master Plan for Lake Cathie is the inclusion of community needs and wishes for future years.
To gather this data the Lake Cathie Progress Association is about to conduct a comprehensive survey asking residents to complete a form letting the Association know what the community wants for the future of the village.
The survey form will be mailed to all postal addresses in Lake Cathie within the next week and residents are asked to make time to select from the options put forward. If the option they desire is not included a space is supplied for other ideas to be added.
The survey covers the following important issues:
Ambulance and Police
Random polling to date suggests residents will vote to have both these services established locally but the wishes of the entire village need to be established.
Unfortunately the land to build an ambulance facility is not included in the current Council plan for the village and no land is set aside in the planned Area 14 development leaving both Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills without this essential service as the population increases and grows older. A strong vote in favour would help pressure authorities to act.
Roads, Traffic & Pedestrian Safety
Many of the important safety additions such as round-abouts, pedestrian crossings and footpaths were included in Council’s plans to upgrade Ocean Drive. However with this work deferred indefinitely due to Council’s poor financial position these issues will need to be implemented as temporary solutions to serious problems. Community input will help prioritise the works required.
Other categories include Beach and Estuary, Cultural and Community Services, Sport and Leisure, Cycle Tracks, Parks and Reserves and many others.
Association President, Rob Tate, asks residents to spare the time to complete the survey. He added “The greater the response we have from the community the greater the impact our new plan will have on Council and Government”.
Survey forms can be returned to BLOCKBUSTER Lake Cathie and additional forms are available at that venue. The return of surveys is requested by April 15.
