After several consecutive weeks of winning all grades the Laurieton United Services Club sponsored Camden Haven senior teams last Saturday came down to earth with a thud as all three teams were defeated in one day games.
Needing to win to secure automatic progression to the Grand Final the 1st Grade side failed to score enough runs to put pressure on the Macquarie Hotel top order. The Havens got off to a good start with Andy Hall making 24 and were well placed at 1 for 50. However a couple of crucial run outs and some less than convincing stroke play saw the middle order crash and the score slump to 8 for 85. Todd Dalton (42 n.o.) and Dave Balaam (25 n.o.) put some respectability into the innings with an unbeaten 65 run partnership which took the score to 150 but it was always going to be difficult to defend it within the 40 overs on an easy paced wicket. The Havens bowlers found it tough to break through and the visitors succeeded in achieving the target, losing just 2 wickets in 30 overs. The Havens now go into the game against Wauchope on Saturday still needing to win to secure the Minor Premiership and a guaranteed spot in the Grand Final.
A very under strength 3rd Grade team had a game against Wauchope that is better forgotten with the Havens being bowled out for just 59. Despite the loss they are still guaranteed of being Minor Premiers even with the last game to be played against Beechwood on Saturday at Fairmont Field.
The 4th Grade side surrendered the outright competition lead against Wauchope last week and now share the top position with them going into the last round of the regular competition. Fielding first the Havens were well placed early as Keegan Raccani grabbed a couple of wickets and even at 5 for 130 they weren’t out of it on a fast Kendall ground. However the next batsmen rode their luck and with some dropped catches and near misses the visitors were able to amass a formidable total of 7 for 249. The run chase began well and at 1 for 60 there was hope but the middle order couldn’t sustain the pressure. Col Harris played a lone hand with a good knock of 68 and Zac Hussein played well at the end to be 21 not out but the home side could only muster a score of 153. They take on Macquarie Hotel on Saturday. Good luck to each team - it’s great to see all three teams assured of a place in the Finals series.
