THE Laurieton United Services Club sponsored Camden Haven Cricket Club last Saturday achieved a club, and possibly Association record by having each of its Senior teams qualify as Minor Premiers. With each team back on the winning list after last week’s hiccup, 1st Grade will move straight to the Grand Final while 3rd and 4th Grade will contest Semi-Finals at Inmon Field and Kendall respectively.
1st Grade got off to a good start in a must win game against Wauchope at Laurieton with a 45 run opening stand between Andy Hall and Nathan Kerr. Runs were coming at around 5 an over and Hall (55) and Sam Kerr (40) put on 66 for the 3rd wicket. It looked like the innings might falter with the score at 6 for 147 and when Al Williams (20) went with the score at 173 there was still plenty to do with only 5 overs left. Ryan Beakey (34 no) and Dan Minns (34 no) finished off the innings in great style, smashing the ball to all parts of the field and adding 64 valuable runs with 52 coming off the last 3 overs to take the score to 7 for 237. The bowlers were on top from the outset with Sam Kerr picking up an early wicket in his 8 overs for just 6 runs. Dan Minns completed a very good game with 2 wickets but for a while the visitors fought back with several sixes being hit. However they couldn’t maintain the pressure and when Todd Dalton picked up 3 wickets the Havens had little trouble in finishing off the game. Andy Hall found himself on a hat-trick and Andrew Howe picked up a couple of wickets and took a sharp catch to end the run chase at 176. The Havens will play the winner of the Macquarie Hotel vs Port Pirates semi in the Final at Oxley Oval on March 20.
The 3rd Grade side were already assured of the Minor Premiership after a season which saw them only lose 3 games and with some regular players unavailable the disrupted batting line up could only manage a total of 117 in 31 overs against Beechwood at Fairmont Field. Best with the bat was Ben Dunn with 29 and young Scott Selway chipped in with 18. Defending the small total the bowlers did a great job in restricting the run rate to less than 3 an over and although Beechwood were able to bat to the 38th over they were bundled out for a score of 93. Pick of the bowlers was Dan Westwood (3 for 26) while James Palmer and Scott Selway took 2 each. Stand in bowlers Aimee Yewdall (1 for 7 off 4) and Nathan Slater (1 for 7 off 2) also did very well. The Havens will now take on Comboyne in the Semi Final at Inmon on Saturday.
In another must-win game, 4th Grade had little trouble in disposing of Macquarie Hotel at Wayne Richards Park. The Havens rolled the home side for just 79 in 25 overs with the stand out bowler being Keegan Raccani with 4 for 11 off 8 overs. Jake Otto also did well with 1 for 8 and Hussein, Duncan and Smith also took wickets. In reply Paul Mobbs took to the bowling for a quick fire 26 and although 5 wickets fell the Havens achieved the target in just 14 overs. They will take on Beechwood in the Semi Final at Kendall in a game that is sure to contain some feeling following Beechwood’s attempt to manipulate the competition by forfeiting last Saturday.
The CHCC Committee would like to congratulate all of the players, not only for achieving such great results throughout the season but also for the fine spirit with which they have played the game.
