Bombers U/18 squad accepted into AFl competition

08 Feb, 2012 08:58 AM
THE growth of AFL in the region has taken another major step forward with the Camden Haven Bombers Club gaining an Under 18s team entry in the 2012 North Coast AFL Senior League.

The Bombers will only be fielding an under-18 team this year but is looking to become a fully fledged senior club that fields three teams each weekend by 2016.

Competition Operations Manager for AFL North Coast Matt Crawley said that in the end the opportunity to continue to grow the game in an area which had worked so hard at the junior level was the overriding factor.

“The Camden Haven area is a high growth residential area and has had a junior AFL club playing in the MNC junior competition for seven years,” Crawley said.

“The junior club has had some success making a number of grand finals and winning a few premierships and we congratulate the members of that region - both players and administrators - for continuing to provide a great advertisement for the code,” he said.

The Bombers are now on the lookout for players in all ages from Under 7s to Under 18s and realise the hard work really starts now.

“Our proposal for an Under 18s team has been very fair and transparent and now time is short for us to march on and make a real go of it this year but continue to provide the platform for young AFL players to grow through the ranks,” Bombers President Chris Wright said.

“We are keen to provide a structure where the Under 7s and 9s can play for as little as $20 registration and we still want to keep it affordable for the Under 18s at around $100 a season - you won’t find many organised sports where you can sign up for so little money but such large physical and emotional rewards.”

President Wright said the Bombers would also be looking to expand its sponsorship base to allow for the growth of the code which he says is, “family-friendly and about teaching young boys and girls how to be better athletes, how to work in a team and the community, and how to display great sportsmanship both on and off the field.”

If you would to sponsor, play for, coach or assist the Bombers at any level in 2012, please contact President Chris Wright on 0488 000 701.
