The friendly Camden Haven Magpies rivalry was evident on the softball diamond on Saturday, when the local side played the Indians.
The final score was 17-4, Indian’s way. Although outplayed by their opponents, the Magpies never gave up.
The infield consisted of: Letiticia Barnes (catcher); Kerry Fedor (pitcher); Louise Jennings (1st); Kerryn Lindley (2nd); Rachel Keelan-Slight (3rd) with Onni Kerr at shortstop. Bonnie-Rae Barnes, Jaimee Lindley and Kathleen Cook were the capable outfielders.
Kerry accepted the pitching position (much to the relief of her team mates) and did her best to give the Indians balls to hit.
She was outwardly calm under pressure and the girls (most notably Letiticia) gave her plenty of support.
There were many ‘walks’ given to the Indians but when they hit the balls, the Magpies showed they were up to the task of fielding.
Bonnie-Rae made catching a high ball look easy.
Kerryn took a difficult catch and then made a double play by throwing to Rachel.
Kathleen and Louise teamed up to take runners out on first and Rachel displayed her skill by single-handedly getting 3 outs in 1 dig! The team was very impressed.
The first dig saw no Magpies make it over home plate.
Onni led the charge in the second dig, with Kerry, Kathleen and Jaimee following suit.
The Magpies batted more successfully in the first half of the game?until the Indians changed their pitcher! Facing a faster pitch proved a difficult task.
Don’t forget there is a Bye next week, but training will go ahead on Thursday afternoon.
