THE Laurieton United Servicemen’s Club sponsored Camden Haven Junior Rugby League Club Junior Eagles are looking forward to this weeks round of semi-finals at the Regional Sports Stadium at Port Macquarie, after some great results at Tuncurry, on the weekend. With three wins and two losses on the weekend there are still five teams still competing for the premiership in their ages.
The Under 11’s will be a little disappointed with their 18-12 loss to Wingham on Saturday, but will be very happy with the progress the team has made during the season. The team now bows out in their age group but with the teams efforts this year Shane, Chris and all families would be proud how well the boys have played and represented all of us.
The Under 12’s although losing on the weekend 24-4 to Port Sharks, will play the minor semi-final this weekend against Port Breakers. At the beginning of the season the 12’s struggled for numbers but were able to come up with a very strong team finishing third on the ladder. Although losing last weekend Coach Paul O’Neill, will be looking for the boys to bounce back. Game time 10.40am.
The Under 13’s finished minor premiers and will take on Taree Panthers in the Major Semi Final. The team was in a similar position last season, but have grown in stature and will be looking at turning the tables on Taree Panthers when they meet this weekend, which will give them the opportunity to go straight into the Grand Final. Coach Michael Horne will be looking for the boys to return to top form. This will be a great match. Game time 11.40am.
The Under 14’s had a great win on the weekend against Taree Panthers 16-8 and will be looking forward to this weeks match against Wingham. There has been great rivalry between both these teams with our boys beating Wingham in last years grand final. Wingham bounced back in round 1 at Wingham but did not show up for Round 2 at Laurieton oval. With the loss of two of the star players over the last couple of weeks Coach Glen Bampton has worked hard with the boys. It will be a great match and will lead to a great finals series. Game time 12.50pm.
The Under 15’s won a thriller at Tuncurry. Being down 14 nil at one stage in the game, they fought back and won 17-16 in extra time against Port Sharks. The team had gone into a lull over the last weeks but behind the scenes a lot of work has gone into improving the skills of the boys and the work the boys and Coach Wayne Wilkes has put in showed on the weekend. They have to go the long way to make the Grand Final with their first hurdle being Port Breakers this weekend but they definitely do have the talent to do so. Game time 2.10pm.
The Under 16’s and two great wins during the week. First they beat Forster on the Tuesday night then destroyed Wauchope on Saturday 22-0. Injuries have hit the team hard during the year but the boys keep stepping up to the plate, showing the brand of football the club prides itself on. They will play Port Sharks this week at 3.10pm.
