Late order batsmen seal the win for 1st grade

24 Feb, 2010 08:32 AM
A rear guard action by Ryan Beakey saved the game for the Camden Haven first grade side against Port City Leagues at Laurieton on Saturday.

Chasing 161 Camden Haven resumed their first innings at 4-41 and got off to a poor start with early wickets falling at regular intervals. Brad Aldous went for 5, Daniel Minns for 7 and when Chris Yewdall was bowled for 5, the Havens were in big trouble. A couple of big hits from Nathan Kerr breathed some life into the Havens batting but it was short lived and he was out for 10. At 8-61, Camden Haven were in a precarious position, however Ryan Beakey at No. 8, steadied the ship and after a cautious start went on to score a magnificent 92. He was offered good support by tailender Andrew Howe who scored 23. Their patient batting and running put on a 109 run partnership to take the home side past the total of 161 needed for a first innings win, totalling 176. The match finished with Port City scoring 97 runs off 20 overs in its 2nd innings. David Balaam 1 wicket and Sam Kerr 2 wickets.

With this being the last 2 day match, Camden Haven now has 2 one day games to finish the season prior to the finals.

Meanwhile on the week-end, Camden Haven 3rd grade had an easy win receiving a forfeit.

4th grade was a clash of the locals between Camden Haven and Bonny Hills. Camden Haven won the toss and sent Bonnies in to bat and some very tight bowling and fielding had them all out for 83. Zak collected two wickets, Keegan “birthday boy” Raccani 1, Col Harris 4, Nathan 2, and Darren Hudson 1 wicket off 18.4 overs.

It took just 23.1 overs to pass the total with the loss of 5 wickets. Nev Raccani no. on 35 and Darren Hudson 31 were the main run scorers. Wayne Smith was not out on 6.
