Last Wednesday on a slightly cooler morning we had 28 members turn out to compete a Single Stableford match. Once again the top scores were in B Grade with R. Woolgar "doing a bolter" with 38 points. Runner-up was B. Johnston with 35 while J. Nelson came in third with 34. In A Grade L. Hamilton took first place with 30 points, K. Nieass was Runner-up on C/B with 26 points and A. Aitken won third place. NTP on the 5th in A Grade was L. Hamilton and B Grade was won by G. McLoughlin who made a clean sweep by also winning NTP on the 8th where B. Squires won the NTP ball for A Grade.
Putting in A Grade went to T. Rose after C/B with 23 putts and B Grade's ball went to H. Dunstan also with 23. Next week's game will be the first round of the Club Championships with starters L. Hamilton & A. Aitken. The Sunday raffle will be run by I. Johnston, L. Hamilton & A. Aitken. Our trip to Sawtell and Nambucca on the 6th and 7th of November is firming up.
We travel to Sawtell on Thursday morning playing the course with lunch afterwards included. We stay overnight at the Ocean View hotel Urunga with breakfast included then on Friday travel to Nambucca to play the island course with lunch once again included. Our ever generous treasurer is subsidising the costs to members which will be $120 per head. Cart hire at both courses is $25 or $12-50 per head extra. Dinner Thursday night will be at own expense. In off the Red.
Bonny Hills Beach Hotel Social Golf.
The Bonny Hills Social Club had an away trip to Tallwoods recently and the results were: 1st – Ladies, 2nd – Tallwoods course, and 3rd – the Men.
The ladies won the day when it was decided that we should play off the white tees (Men) and red tees (Ladies) on the difficult Tallwoods course. Carol Middlebrook scorched the course hitting immaculate wood and iron shots around the undulating layout. Her concentration was very intense throughout, as it needed to be with her male partners regularly quenching their considerable thirst. Carol had a gross score of 115 and a net of 65.
She defeated Marie Carroll by 3 strokes after Marie scored a commendable 118 off the stick. The red tees were often considerably nearer the green than the white tees. When told of the great girls scores, one disgruntled male contestant was heard to mutter under his breath: “well so they should have. They only played half the course.”
Jenny Jackson played to her handicap to finish third. She had 42 off the stick on the front 9 and overall, she had the best gross with an 88. Although she can be very satisfied with her efforts, she failed to be on the prizewinners list. The Ladies Longest Drive went to Diana Molony and the Ladies Nearest the Pin was won by Marie Carroll. Mark Overton was NTP in the men’s event.
The Mens Longest Drive went to David Middlebrook. David cringed when he was announced the winner as he would regard his round as a load of “crap” and this drive was about his only respectable shot. His gross score of 112 included no less than 8 shots in which he gained no ground. These included an Out of Bounds penalty, a Hit the Wrong Ball penalty, an Air Swing, and 4 lost ball penalties.
Speaking of Air Swings, there were at least 5 reported “airies” on the day – 3 from the one player, who coincidentally finished with the Bradman Award for the Highest Score. However, Johnny Mason did have excuses in that he was out of practice, was recovering from an injured back and has problems with the handicapper.
A Putting Competition was also held and the winner of the least putts event (32) was Anthony Murphy. Anthony played some fantastic shots along with his good putting. However, he did have his moments and one might class his round as “consistently inconsistent.” The most putts went to the winner, Carol Middlebrook (43). The saying might be; “drive for dough and putt for show.”
Tom Scrine was the second best putter with 33 putts. Tom began the day on fire, but began to tire and lose his concentration. At about the 14th hole, his golf shoes got tangled in rocks and he stumbled and for several moments, there were arms and legs flailing everywhere. Eventually, however, gravity won and he hit the ground heavily. After picking himself up, the adrenalin was rushing and he was back on track and finished his round with some great shots.
The day was most enjoyable and our thanks must go to our organizer, Roger Miles, our patron, Anthony Murphy and our Captain and his precious offsider, Tony and Marie Carroll for their organisation.
The next event for the Bonny Hills Beach Hotel Social Golf Club will be at Camden Haven beginning at 8 am on September, 28. The event will be a Single Stableford.
HASTINGS VALLEY
MOTORCYCLE CLUB

Queens Lake
Sailing Club
The forecast strong winds did not eventuate and six boats fronted up for the first heat of the Club Championship in a 5-8 knot Easterly.
The starting crew carefully counted down the minutes ensuring that each flag was dropped at exactly the right second until the final flag came down. What was the puzzled look from those closest to the line.? Could it be that an experienced fellow sailor had forgotten to press the starting horn! He shall remain nameless as he is writing this report.
Luckily at Queens Lake this does not mean a false start as no boats were disadvantaged and the sheepish starter let them go.
It was not long before Flat Chat cleared out to eventually lap some of the slower boats in a breeze which was slowly fading.
Hakunamathata handled the conditions well and finished second while Anything and No Symmetry found there was not enough wind to get the full potential from their boats. No Symmetry was being skippered by Emily Thomas for her first race and she probably tried not to laugh too much when a broken fitting resulted in her father taking an unexpected swim.
On corrected time Hakunamathata (Peter Lentz) won from Anything (Mark Holt), Flat Chat (Rohan Nosworthy) and No Symmetry with the other two boats retiring to avoid keeping the officials waiting. So far the weather has been kind and we hope to see more boats turn up now that it really seems like summer.

Kendall Fishing Club
Our last weigh-in was held August 31, with a good roll-up of fishers, some who caught fish and others who tried hard but failed to find the fish in a co-operative mood. Helen Baldry won the ladies section and Mark O’Neill won the men’s. Our September outing is this weekend 27 and 28.
The August weigh-in also coincided with our annual general meeting. It was pleasing to see all of those who attended. President Allan thanked the outgoing committee for their work during the last year and welcomed the new committee members. At the AGM it was decided to bring back the secret species to each outing. Also there is now an extra competition for our sub juniors (under 12 years of age) for each outing being a nominated species competition. This month the nominated species for the kids is bream and the prize is being kindly donated by Darren Chapman Backhoes.
Best of luck for fishing this weekend and we will see everyone at the weigh-in this Sunday at 1.30pm.
Laurieton Hotel Fishing Club

With Two Balls job in the balance I have taken the job on. My name is “Facts-Just-the-Facts.” A recent “survey” about should humour be included in the write-up results yes 99% No1%.
So for my one chance and for one person here is my report using the facts.

The big game last Sunday was real good but I forgot to ask who won.

LUSC Mens Social Golf Club
Eleven starters Sunday morning for a round of golf. Good to see Brian back from maternity leave. Tony just got over the top of Riddo in the singles matchplay and will now play Pepe next week for the right to be called champion. Yours Truly won the Stableford by a country mile – be gentle Mr Handicapper. Dunny was close to the hole on the 10th and Ruddo monstered a big drive on the long hole (driven like an A Grader, reckon). Don’t forget our overnight away trip to Hawksnest on October 25, it will be a great weekend and cheap too so get your names in.
Mick Manyjobs.
PS: The course is in great condition. The weathers warmed up so no excuse not to get to golf.
CH REDBACKS JUNIOR SOCCER
U/13 Dollarsavers vs Great Lakes Vikings for Zone championship.
After playing Friday nights all year our boys had to dig deep in the heat on Saturday to overcome the attacking raids of the Vikings in the 1st half. Never say die defence from Smithy, Trent, Max, Christo and Damo and good saves from Jarrod held them to 0-0 at half time. After our half time talk we controlled the 2nd half with our midfield of Owen Shannon, Calib, Dylan, and Zach laying off some good passes and Danyon and Ben as always dangerous up front. Our constant tough defence from all boys proved to be too much for the Vikings.Trent put our 1st goal away from outside the 18 yard box. Soon after Ben cracked a ripper outside the 18 yard box for our 2nd. Our 3rd came from great team work from one end of the field to the other for Danyon to finish off. Back to back zone champions, well done boys. I would like to thank Dollar Savers BuildingSupplies for their continual support .See you all next year.
