LUSC LADIES

SOCIAL BOWLS

Unfortunately the weather prevented our bowls from being played last week but the lists for next week have been placed on the board at Lusc and again at Kew Bowls.

The date for our Christmas luncheon is on 28th November at Jade restaurant and we would like names in for that. On 29th November is the main LUSC Mixed Christmas Dinner and the sheets are up for that also. It may be nice if our ladies and their partners who must also be members of the LUSC could get together for that dinner. Again lady bowlers who do not feel capable of playing 21 ends are welcome to come for our day where we play for 2 hours only. It is a great fun day.

Queens Lake Sailing Club

This must be the best start to a sailing ever, well in the starter's memory anyway which is no guarantee.

Yet another sparkling NE breeze between 14 and 18 knots provided ideal sailing conditions.

Eleven got away to a bunched start, but the catamarans soon found the conditions to their liking and opened up a substantial lead.

On the first triangle Hakuna Matata (Peter Lentz) was the best of the mono-hulls, but gradually Anything (Mark Holt) caught and passed HM, making the most of its spinnaker on the reaches and improving its upwind performance. Further back there was a tight competition among the remainder with positions changing frequently.

First home was Decisions (Tony Kuhne), well in front of Pendragon (Ray Lance) and No Symmetry (Clayton Thomas). Next home was Anything followed by Hakuna Matata.

On corrected time Decisions (PMSC) was a decisive winner from Anything and Hakuna Matata. Afterthought, Bulldog, Rumpus, Pendragon, Bitza, The Shark and No Symmetry finished in that order.

The hard luck story of the day was Mammoth (Paddy Holt) our only junior skipper in this race. While having his best race so far, and deciding to complete the full seniors course, managed to capsize nearing the final mark. Then he broke his centreboard whilst attempting to right his boat and ended up with his mast stuck in the mud and thus was unable to finish.

Will next week be even better? Turn up and find out.

Kendall Fishing Club

Our September weigh-in was held on September 28, and there were 59 fish for a weight of 36 kilograms presented to the weighmaster. Of the 15 people who fished the more successful were Dylan Baldly in the junior section, Helen Baldly in the ladies section, Rob Baldry in the men’s section and Barry Sandersan in the veteran men’s section. We also had a boat go out to sea and Lindsay Norrie on her first attempt fishing outside weighed in a nice bag of fish with her largest snapper going 2.2 kilograms. It would be nice to see some more angler’s male and female go out and compete in this section.

This weekend will see our October outing held with the weigh-in to be held at the club at 1.30pm on Sunday October 26. Remember you can start fishing from 3.30pm on Friday afternoon right through till the weigh-in.

Also if anyone is interested we are holding a NSW Maritime boat licence coarse on Thursday November 13. If you are interested in attending this course could you please ring either myself (Allan) on 0428 594 508 or the NSW Maritime office in Port Macquarie to book your seat.

Good luck fishing this weekend and we will see you at the weigh-in on Sunday.

LUSC Lawn Bowls

Quite a good roll-up on Thursday last, some exciting bowls played and the prizes were evenly distributed but some very sad news was announced, the passing of one of our highly respected bowlers Don Holbert, who had been unwell for some time, but it still comes as a shock. We do send our sincere condolences to all his Family – “May He Rest in Peace.”

The first winning rink was William Gardiner, John Moore and Budgie, 2nd winning rink was Gary Hillman, Noel punchy Collins, Pommie Bennett and Ron Morris. First runner-up was Robert Constable again, baldy Roy Johnston and fearless Fred Easterbrook. The lucky number winners were $20 Maurice Smith, $10 Joe Franck visitor. Gee we look after our visitors and $5 to Percy Fry. The Christmas Club Raffle Winners were Don McKirdy, Presso Jack Madeley, again, and Jonnie Slager, $25 to each of those three lucky gents. Visitors Bill Donaldson from Swansea, Joe Franck from The Entrance, and Ted Cant from God knows where because I don’t know where, maybe he was just a blow in hiding from his wife or a nasty debt collector. Sick list Les Thompson, I though he was too tough to get sick, maybe just maybe he knows a good looking nurse, and Ken McDonald is home from hospital, but is still receiving treatment and we wish those two gents and any other sick person all the best of good health and recovery and are mixing with all their friends very soon. A big welcome back to Neville the Devil Ripley, after a lengthy period of health problems. Have all you folks got your names down on the sheet yet, yes of course it is on the notice board and got your 10 people on a table. Don’t leave it too long, it will fill up pretty quickly and I would hate to see someone miss out. You know the party is only a few weeks away November 28, I have told you all the details, so just hurry in and get your name on the table and you will have your bum on the seat. Just went up to Yamba for a few days and have they got a Bowling Club, four greens, a clubhouse that big if you had a beer at every bar, you would be past happy, just as well they had a courtesy bus, but the pokies don’t pay too good, but we all had a good time. See you all soon.

Jack High.

LUSC Men’s Social Golf Club

A rather fresh start to the Sunday morning for a round of golf. Some sadist suggested we play a stroke event and for some unknown reason most agreed. Phil started the morning off with a practical joke (you’ll keep mate). Trevor turned up with this game face on and took home the voucher, looks like his handicap’s coming down while dad’s is going up. There was some pretty ordinary golf played, Billy even had an air swing with his putter. Next week is our overnight trip to Hawksnest. Pick up’s will start at Bonny Hills at 9am Saturday through to North Haven 9.15am, Laurieton 9.30am, Lakewood 9.45am, Kew 10am. There is still four spots left so let me know by Thursday if you want to go.

LUSC Snooker

Last Tuesday night saw the snooker room in a more relaxed mode but some players went for tea making the boys from the table of knowledge a little grumpy. But unfortunately unable to carry their complaint too far seeing two of their hierarchy were the ones upstairs feasting on steaks and wine. “Holy hell Batman do you think they will turn on each other.” Anyway “The Main Man” (Glen by laws) was nowhere to be seen. The night saw the clock go back 10 years. What an atmosphere any more relaxed some players would nod off.

Major Final Speedway Col just loves taking the Mickey out of the top players, Jimbo (big steak) was “Black Flagged” when Col Bloomfield passed him waving the chequered flag. Minor Final Keith Racevich is coming home like a mac truck this win puts him in second spot, runners-up was GP ‘bigger steak’ Palmer. He is the Robin Hood of the room. Could he be the player to shoot arrows through the front runners-in the Tuesday night points score.

Thursday night the troops return. Ray Mac had a look on Tuesday night he bought his cue tonight so did Ron Howell. Peter Mayne was there too he gave the thumbs up but I am not sure what he meant. Major Final the “Snake Man” Mick Banicek tries to put the baby to sleep he wins this final and leads his nearest rival by 10 points (The Beaver Go Manly), runners-up “The Boss” Colin Cook playing at his “favourite club,” LUSC yes, his history goes back to the early days of the snooker club and “Two Balls” can’t understand why his photo isn’t on the “wall of fame.” Give it to them Snowdrop. Minor Final our “Lady Thea” takes everything in her stride even standing in front of the mac truck “Keith Racevich.” Thea wins this game but that truck has been putting some rubber down.

What a week “Captain by Laws” (Wait till Two Balls gets his hands on those “By Laws’), sparks will fly they say the great man has fallen on his sword. Players are coming from everywhere, Jimbo says the world is an oyster, all you have to do is open the bloody thing.

Two Balls.

Kendall Social Golf Club

On Sunday October 18, we had a great roll-up of 19 golfers under the direction of fill in handicapper Whizza to play a Stableford multiplier. The winners for the day were Chris Baker and Deitzie with a massive 54 points from runners-up Snags and Pom who set the early pace. The CHAFT shirts went to Giggles and Dan and Poppy and Louise (Just one shirt still out there somewhere). NTP on the 9th was Whizza, NTP on the 3rd to Neville no-one, Longest Drive on the 8th to Lisa and Snags and 2nd shot on the 4th to Deitzie.

Lots of contenders for The Happy Gilmore aware this week with many players including myself needing compass to stay on the right fairway and out of the trees. Whizza spent a lot of his game in the sand and the “Girls” had targets on each other with many hits or near misses. Louise gave the new Birthday sticks a go and found they have been pre trained to use the wooden bridge to get over the water.

Our Golf Club Christmas Party will be held on Saturday November 22, with a game of golf at 2pm followed by refreshments and a meal back at headquarters. Cost per person will be $15 for the day with everyone welcome. Dress for the day will be “Op- Shop Theme” and a list will be available for you to put your names down at our social games.

Our next social game at Kew will be Sunday November 2, with a 6.30am tee off. Hope to see you all there.
