INDOOR BOWLS

Last night there were 36 players and that included 4 Quota Club ladies who were trying out the indoor bowls scene. They were Pat Legge, Judy Morrison, June Travers, and Judith Bowerman and there were also 3 other ladies who made up a cheer squad for their friends. There were 4 x 3 game winners - Eleonora Smith and Betty Bradley, Bill Hyde and Judith Bowerman, Thelma Ruhan and Mavis Coates. Barbara Woolgar and Margaret Caples. Eleonora and Betty won the 1st place vouchers and Thelma and Mavis the runner-up ones. The other two 3 game winners received a scratchie.

Camden Haven Cricket Club

Under 9's

Camden Haven under 9's played Port Macquarie Bulls at Bay St. Batting first Camden Haven scored an amazing 137 runs for the loss of only one wicket in their 16 over innings. This proved to be invaluable as pairs of batsmen received bonus runs for not losing a wicket. With only 5 players, Camden Haven had to borrow 3 fielders from their obliging opponents. Brad, Ezra, Nicholas, Ky and Ben showed great team spirit snaring 7 wickets for 136 runs (with the Bulls end of game score being 19.42 runs) to win the game in convincing fashion. Well done team! Any under 9 cricketers wanting to have some fun and join in a great team atmosphere please contact the Camden Haven Cricket Club 65594495.

Under 10 v Port Macquarie Sheet Metal

A great start to the season for the Under 10's. With excellent backing up the boys prevented runs and forced the batsmen to make errors. The bowling this year has improved and the team took 6 wickets. The Under 10's team this year is: Fletcher, Josh, Doran, Lachlan S, Matt, Lachlan H, Shaun, Paul, Kirsty and Tennyson. Keep up the great work everyone. See you at training on Thursday.

LAKE CATHIE

DARTS CLUB

On Sunday 2nd November Lake Cathie Darts Club hosted another round of inter club competition for the coveted Cathie/Kendall Challenge Shield.

Everyone had an enjoyable day and there were some good darts thrown - but not enough by the Lake Cathie team who were soundly beaten 66 to 32. Kendall led from the start and the final result was really never in doubt.

Prize awards went to Kitty and Steve for high pegs of 64 and 98 respectively whilst Cheryl M and Mick (after a playoff with Col) had winning high scores of 134 and 140 respectively.

Raffle results saw 2 big fat chooks go to Cheryl M with the meat tray sponsored by the Lake Cathie Butchery going to Pam.

Thanks to all those who played and a special thanks to those who brought nibbles - especially to Joan who must have emptied her pantry!

The next round of competition will take place at Kendall in 2009.

QUEENS LAKE

SAILING CLUB

With the start of the warmer weather, Queens Lake Sailing Club is seeing a renewed interest in sailing. A fleet of 10 boats enjoyed the light shifty conditions on Saturday afternoon. "Hakuna Matata" (Peter Lentz & Greg Mitchell) took a commanding lead with the rest of the fleet battling it out with some close racing. The next boat to finish was "Cocktail"(Mark & Sophie Holt) closely followed by "The Shark" (Chris Watt) then "Bitza" (Ian Oxenford & Martina Holt) with the rest of the fleet not far behind. Next week, as well as sailing at Queens Lake on Saturday some of our club members will be competing at the Hastings Marine Regatta and the first of the inter club series to be sailed against the Taree and Port Macquarie clubs on the river in Port on Sunday. The Queens Lake Club will be all out to defend the title they won last season.

LUSC Fishing Club

October 26, 2008

Gidday punters, well wasn’t this a different weekend weather wise compared to the mill pond days that we have been privy to lately. The boatie that ventured out were met with a raging current and a bit of a lump, not to forget the north easterly that seems to roll in around 11am each day. But those who persevered were rewarded with a few snapper with Andy Martin weighing the best at 3.2kg gilled and gutted.

Those of us that fished beach and rock were confronted with the same bump with fish one day and not the next and that was after my best spiderman impersonation to my mates favourite wirrah spot, by the way I bagged out on the little blighters 10 fold. As it turned out the place to be was in the estuary with Dylan Baldry taking the honours this month with a great bag of flathead, bream, whiting and mullet. Mitchell Lowe also had a good bag with a 420gram whiting to kick the year off, well done boys.

To the winners, sub junior estuary winner Matthew Woodward. Junior estuary winner Dylan Baldry, runner-up Mitchell Lowe. Mens estuary winner Garry Edwards, runner-up Peter (hoppy) Hayes. Mens vets estuary winner Peter Pritchard, runners-up Mal Isaac and Kiwi O’Neill. Ladies estuary winner was Sandra Gill. Ladies vets estuary winner Kay Isaac, runner-up Marg Sheridan. Mens beach and rock winner Mick (wirrah) Minarsky, runner-up Col Trenaman. Mens deep sea winner Dennis Byrnes, runner-up Andy Martin, Mens vets deep sea winner Kiwi O’Neill, runner-up Ken Cowell and last but not least Ladies vets deep sea winner Marg Sheridan. To all, well done.

Treno’s tip, when you have sustained an injury where it has to be strapped eg: knee or ankle, the best method is to grab your wife’s lady Remington or veet razor and shave the injured area as it helps when the bandages are applied, no rubbing or hair knots. Unfortunately if you have very hairy legs it is not a good look when you wear shorts in public as it attracts a few quiet laughs if you know what I mean, best to leave the strapping on. Until next month happy hunting.

LUSC Snooker Club

Last Tuesday night saw the billiard balls come out after committee man Col Bloomfield spent half an hour setting the snooker balls up. (Sounds like something Snowdrop would do Batman). Major Final “Snake Man” is playing well at the moment, his opponent “Old Smoothie” hasn’t played much billiards but good friend and fishing buddy Jimbo Gill is a master at the three ball sport, yes, it’s easy to see what’s going on here mate. Minor Final Keith Racevich has played in 12 finals in the last 19 comp nights. No wonder we are now calling him the “Mac Truck,” yes everyone has a handicap (has this bloke gone under the radar) back to you Mr Handicapper. A visitor from “San Diego” (USA) the informative Derek Mollin “young whipper snipper,” the boy is still in his mid twenties. President Glen Kunze offered to play Derek a game of golf for a schooner” but renegged when Derek said his handicap is only 3 ((verdict) come back again Derek.

Thursday night snooker, Derek returns, he goes home next week then comes back, the reason - to further his profession as a lawyer. Now down to business, USA “v” GT Thompson, the young lawyer wins his first game of snooker, well done. Major Final “The Beaver” was too good on this occasion, Gunther Otto is a highly skilled player but has had a quiet year – Minor Final “The Penguin” John Benson “Flip Flap Take That” “Old Smoothie” Brian Lenard has a lot on his plate (they tell me the Gold Coast is great this time of year). The points score sponsored by “Legends Café” and “Wiggly Tail Meats” Tuesday. Kunze 73, Beaver/Lenard 70, Racevich/Banicek 69. Thursdays :Kunze 76, Banicek 74, Beaver 68, Racevich 60, Lenard 59, Bloomfield 55. This will be the closest finish in years. Good luck and good sportsmanship.

Two Balls.

LUSC Lawn Bowls

After being washed out of our bowls on Thursday 23, everyone was looking for a good game on Thursday last and that is what we got. The weather was lovely and fine with just enough breeze to make it very comfortable. The winning rinks on the day were David Wightman, T Goffler and Wrinkles Woodhouse, 2nd winning rink was J Lennox, D McLellan and the old smoothy Leslie Thompson, 2nd runner-up Allan Russell, G Tweedie Nopie and A J Clarke plus 70 odd players who all enjoyed the game of bowls, the greens and of course great company and some of them won money, vouchers and prizes. The lucky number prizes were won by Jack Clarke $20, David Wightman $10 and $5 to Mike Carney. The Christmas Club raffle winners of the $25 went to whiskers Huntley, Robert Constable and Tom Evans, good heavens brother. Then we had 10 big breakfast trays plus 10 juicy family pies from the Lake Street Colonial Bakery which were won by some of the bowlers present. Please note that the last game of bowls for 2008 will be on December 11, with a few changes in the format for that day only, so keep this date in your memory bank, the safest bank at the moment. Of course the bookings for our mixed Christmas Party closes on November 21, for catering requirements, so if you have not got your name down by 6pm on that date you miss out, no iffs, butts, or lame excuses, will be listened to, so get your name down today. The men’s only Christmas party will be on December 18, check with Mark Ryan to see if you have qualified. Visitors, quite a few this week, firstly Jim Williams from Soldiers Point, Gary Johnson from South West Rocks, Barry Robley not wobbley and Don Carr from Tourkley, George Tweedie from Kurri Kurri, Spike Taylor from Evans Head and John Manning from Port Macquarie, they come from near and far, to play at the most popular club on the coast. Sick list, Ken McDonald and Kevin Nieass. Birthdays good heavens and fearless Fred Easterbrook I believe he turned 80, but I am always getting into trouble over this age business, so I may be wrong again. Welcome to our new member Sam Smallwood. Welcome to the happy gang, I am sure you will enjoy the company. Also a big welcome to first time for bowling with us on a Thursday, Peter Negus, we look forward to seeing you on a regular basis and welcome back to bowls from holidays, sickness etc, to Pat Guthrie, Glen Ferris and Wally Barnes, very nice to see all back enjoying yourselves. Don’t forget the closing date for the Mixed Christmas party November 21. I heard the other day that on the Sunday last at LUSC the members draw was $25 and one of our bowlers number came out and everyone was happy, we all thought he would shout at least once, but he was not there, left just before the draw. Bad luck Allan, it pays to stick around. See yah.

Jack High.

LUSC Ladies Social Golf

Who was the person that was accidentally locked in the car at Laurieton oval while three friends sat in the bus chatting and wondering where she was? On Thursday October 23. The LUSC ladies social golfers had arranged a mystery trip, weather was unkind and as we were early and transport had not arrived they sat in the car talking, when the bus pulled up all jumped out of the car and ran on to the bus, owner of vehicle thinking everyone was out pressed the central locking not realizing someone was still in the car, luckily one of the other people boarding stated someone was banging and waving out of a fogged up back window. Moral of story, when driver of vehicle gets out make sure you jump out too.

On Tuesday October 28, 32 ladies played in President versus Captain event in warm conditions. The Captain’s team were the winners with 596, Presidents team had 635. There were 10 cardies present.
