NHBC SOCIAL GOLF

Last Wednesday 25 members contested a Single Stableford with a Two Ball Aggregate in conjunction. In the Single Stableford the A Grade winner was S. Madden with 28 points on countback from N. McCarthy and G. Clarke. In B Grade all placegetters once again had the same score of 29 with H. Dunstan being the winner on countback from R. Woolgar and R. Bower. The Two Ball Aggregate competition was won by S. Madden and R. Rolfe. In the nearest the pin competition no one managed to hit the 5th green but on the 8th P. Raschke won A Grade while B. Hudson won the ball for B Grade. Next week's game will be a 2BBB Stableford and the starters will be T. Sutherland and S. Gunns. The Sunday raffle will be the precinct of G. McLoughlin, R. Bower & T. Page. After the game the A.G.M. was held with the following office bearers being elected / re-elected. President - J. Fairbrother, Captain - R. Perry, Secretary/Treasurer - T. Rose, Handicapper - P. Raschke, Vice Captain - B. Johnston, Assistant Handicapper - G. Butlin and the Committee members, R. Woolgar & B. Hudson. During the meeting T. Sutherland was inducted as a life member of the club after serving a long and meritorious time with the club. The humorist Henry Beard once said of golf, "A driving range is where golfers go to get all of the good shots out of their system."

Lake Cathie Darts Club Social darts

Matches resumed after a break for the school holiday period on 10th February, 2009 and as usual there were close results at the end of the night.

Winners were Barb & Allan after a playoff with Kitty & Glenn with both teams on 17 points.

Without doubt the best play of the night - perhaps even for the year already - went completely un-rewarded when Learne busted with a perfect score of 180 - gee we play darts under some harsh rules !

HP winner was Kitty on 77 - a pretty good peg for the first night back.

HS winner was Glenn on 127 - also a great effort so early in the season.

Raffle results saw a big fat chook go to Mal & Terry.

Activities continue every Tuesday with rego around 6.15 pm for a 6.30 pm dart off. Visitors are always welcome.

SOCIAL BOWLS

Unfortunately the Bowls were cancelled last Thursday due to to the rain, however, I have been told that all the greens are back in play and triples will be the go from now on. The members marked down to play their Triples Championship matches last Thursday are now scheduled to play them on Thursday 25th February the week after next. Next Thursday 19th February Bowls will be played as normal, however a fee of $10 per head will apply as a Special fund raiser for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. If we can continue to attract over 100 bowlers as we have over the past weeks a substancial amount will be donated. So get your names down on the nomination sheet and get right behind this worthy cause.

LUSC SNOOKER

Tuesday 3.2.2009

On Tuesday it wasn't a bad roll-up with 16 players turning up at our popular little snooker room.

Unfortunately there were no spectators but occasionally we get a few onlookers.

All games were played in good spirit.

In the Majors Thea Wiegers was triumphant over G. Otto

In the Minors we saw the doubles partners and drinking buddies but Jimbo Gill defeated his mate G.Palmer.

I don't know if there was a little wager on that match? Someone will be shouting the first drink next match.

Thursday 22.1.2009

In the Major final Kevin Jarrett defeated Glen Kunze.

There wasn't much in it. The handicaps must be close to the mark.

In the Minor final Michael Banicek defeated John Benson.

Tuesday 10.2.2009

Again there was a fairly good turnout of players. G. Palmer beat John Benson in the Major final.

In the Minor final George Walker beat Keith Raicevich.

Thursday 12.2.2009

The Major went to another one of our regular good players G. Otto.

The runner up in this match was quiet achiever Ray McLaughlin.

In the Minor final Michael Banicek was the winner over Thea Wiegers.

I'd like to apologize for Last week's results not being published.

We have to blame a visit to Sydney on that one.

Hope this week's extra big report makes up for it.

A reminder to all the committee members that there is a meeting on Tuesday at 4.30pm sharp.

Good potting.

Michael Banicek

Dragon Boaters News

The much awaited Chinese New Year Regatta on Darling Harbour proved to be a resounding success. Our Haven Dragons Crew which raced on the Saturday finished third in their heat and whilst very competitive on times they failed to qualify for the final. It must be that Dragonboating is very good for you especially if the energy and enthusiasm of our paddlers and our “senior” members in particular is any indication, the extreme weather conditions did not appear to deter their enjoyment.

Well done all great to see – good coaching as well?

On the Sunday six Breast Cancer survivors from Dragons Abreast Camden Haven combined with paddlers from Flamin Dragons Port Macquarie to compete in their special events with some success as they won the Minor Final, no mean feat on such a significant occasion.

We are currently reorganising rosters to hopefully enable all members to paddle at their most convenient times as well as accommodate new members.

The construction of the cage extension or new cage to accommodate our road trailer is being organised and work should start soon.

The boat and many of our members will be taking part in the Street Parade next Saturday – if you would like any information about our activities just ask anyone wearing a blue and yellow dragon shirt they will be only too happy to provide answers. Next Saturday evening the Country Energy Ball will be held in Port Macquarie and it is anticipated that our Dragons Abreast section will benefit from this great evening. A lot of work goes into the organisation of our activities and it is greatly appreciated by all members.

On Sunday February 8, 11 players were at the first tee in warm conditions. The balls were tossed into the middle to draw for partners for a three man Ambrose. Louise “Kupcake” Hudson had all the right ingredients in partners Bill and Phil to win the day from Al, Snags and Lisa. The CHAFT shirts went to Pom and Poppy. Nearest the pin on the 3rd to Al second shot on the 4th to Bill, longest drive on the 8th to Pom and nearest the Pin with a cracker on the 9th was President Phil.

One contender for The Happy Gilmore award this week with President Phil hitting his tee shot on the 5th with one hand and catching it with the other. Message to Chris Baker from Al the CHAFT shirt is still waiting for you.

Our next game is this Sunday February 22 which is the Keith Swan Memorial Day held in conjunction with the Kendall Blues, so get your team together for a 4 person Ambrose and support this day. Cost of the day is $15 per person with a 7am start and teams can be entered at Kendall Club or at the Pro Shop or just turn up on the day.

NHBC ANGLERS

Our February comp was held last weekend, the 14 & 15.

Boy-oh-boy what a top ace-gun of a weekend – another typical comp weekend and , becoming “ par for the course”. Lo and behold we had 20 members turn up where 2 anglers presented 2 species of 15 fish to weigh by Mr President Ray Robinson & Recorder Dick Spencer.

From the Estuary mens , the ever effervescent “sparkling” Des Sparkes with 5 Luderick all about same to .580kgs and 4 Dusky Flathead, again all about same to .640kg. Des’s new boat was christened by a lot of water, absolutely soaked by the heavens

The juniors saw young Des (DJ) Sparkes, hot on Pop’s tail also with 5 Luderick to .400kg, & 1 Dusky at .330kg. Top effort & both drenched, Des & DJ. Heartiest congratulations to the both of you.

Consequently, $20 lucky angler won by Des Snr & $15 voucher won by DJ for a junior attending – sponsored by North Haven Bait & Tackle. Thank you Kim & Darrell.

A get well soon message to our weigh master Geoff Boese who is in hospital suffering from pneumonia. We all hope that you are on the road to recovery and up and running again soon. Our best wishes to you, Geoff.

Our next committee meeting will be on Tuesday the 10th March at 6pm at the Bowling Club with comp the following weekend, the 14th & 15th, weigh-in at 1pm the Bowling Club.

New members are welcome to join.

Until next time, “Fine Piscatorialing”.

LAURIETON HOTEL

FISHING CLUB

Well done to those who braved the conditions and were rewarded with a weigh-in. The only section fished was estuary which was won by Trevor Gardiner with bream, flathead and whiting. Annie won the $50 and Jack Miller won the $20 tackle voucher. Our thanks to North Haven Bait and Tackle for their support. Also to Al and the hotel staff and owners for providing hot food for those who attended. There will be a General Meeting on Tuesday the 3rd March at 7pm for all members because of what happened on the weekend so please attend.

Dave.

Kendall S. & C. Club Saturday Singles

The next singles darts will be on the 14th and not the 7th of March. These things happen. We look forward to seeing a few more faces for the next one. They say that playing darts is a very good mental and physical form of exercise. I don’t know about that, I just love playing darts. We want to get started by 1pm so if you are coming either get there before 1pm, or give a ring if you’re running late. Everyone is welcome.
