NHBC SOCIAL GOLF
Last Wednesday on another delightful morning 29 hopefuls contested a Single Stableford match. The three placegetters in A Grade all had the same score of 30 requiring a three way countback. The ultimate winner was Peter Raschke, second went to Shane Madden who played a great round one under the card, we believe a club record! Third went to Roy Perry. B Grade's best was Brian Hudson with 32 points, runner-up was Merv McLean with 28 and Barry Shorter took out third with 27 points. Nearest the pin on the fifth saw Kevin Nieass win the ball while not a soul from B Grade made the green. On the eighth hole Ian Johnston prevailed and in B Grade it was Vern Nicolia. Best A Grade putting went to John Nelson with 24 putts and the B Grade ball was won by Stan Gunns with 23 putts. Next week's game will be round one of the Club Championships and the starters will be Trevor Rose and Kevin Nieass. The Sunday raffle will be administered by Peter Raschke, Laurie Hamilton and Col. Huntley. Murphy's law; If there's a storm rolling in you'll be having the game of your life!

Marie Carroll overcame a series of unlucky runners-up places to finally win an event at Camden Haven last Sunday. She combined with the consistent Ken Norberry to score a mammoth 99 points in the 16 holes Stableford Multiplier at the Kew course.
Marie’s handicap has been rising regularly in recent times and this, combined with some excellent golf on the day meant that a big stableford score was inevitable. She had 3, 5 pointers in her round and their multiplier scores included a 15, 12, a couple of 10’s, a 9 and a couple of 8’s. After his consistent play, Ken is about to release his book on “Playing Great Golf”.
The runners up were Roger Miles and Tony Carroll, with a multiplier score of 88. Roger scored a birdie 2 on the par 3, 3rd hole and totalled 36 points individually. Tony was very consistent throughout his round and had a 72 off the stick. One is a little concerned with his methods for success, however. On the 8th hole, Tony had a short 40 cm putt which he hit a little strongly. His ball hit the back of the hole bounced back, hit his boot and then rolled back into the hole.
Roger Miles won the Men’s LD while David Middlebrook won the NTP. David Middlebrook also had a birdie (on the par 5, 6th). Playing conditions were, obviously, very conducive to low scores. Marie Carroll won the Ladies LD and the NTP. Tom Scrine won the NTP(2nd shot) on the 15th hole.
Wildlife attracted a couple of players. Alan Jackson went rabbiting on one hole, while Tom Scrine went visiting his old mate, the red belly black, on the far northern side of the 14th hole.
Club members need to be reminded that they need to attend at least 3 events during the year to be eligible to partake in the complimentary golf and luncheon Christmas celebrations in December.
The next event is the $30 bus trip to South West Rocks. The journey is rated a "half a carton of Cascade" trip, with the bus departing the pub at 6.30 am on Sunday, October 25. The event will be an Irish and Dutch 3-Ball. Deposits need to be made at headquarters to ensure a seat as recent bus trips have been extremely popular.

Other winning teams were Bill Hyde and Thelma Ruhan, Beryl Duck and Marie Conallin. A small crowd this week, many players have the sniffles from cold winds and changeable weather. Hope all get better and see you next week.
LUSC Wednesday Night Euchre

LUSC Men’s Social Golf
Sunday morning saw the final round of the singles match play championships played between Ruddo and Trevor. It was an even contest early but Mark was too strong in the end and is our new singles match play champion (congratulations and well played Mark). The other game played on the day was a stroke event, always well received by everyone. Les’s new driver has shaved shots off his handicap and he was too good again winning on a countback from Bob. AJ cleaned up the NTP’s in A Grade, B Grades were shared between Rod, Bob and Billy. There were a lot of golfers who thought they’d played bad enough to get the NAGA, even seven putts on one hole wasn’t enough for Phil to get the Pink shirt, Sladie has the honour and will be pretty in pink next week. Next Sunday Sladie has a social golf crew from Orange up and we’ll be playing a round in the morning and then back to the LUSC for a bbq lunch and games day. Don’t forget the following weekend is our overnight trip to Sawtell. There’s still room on the bus if anyone wants to go.

Kendall Fishing Club
Our September weigh-in was held on Sunday September 20 with 16 members weighing 74 fish for 47 kilograms. The nominated specie for the Darren Chapman Backhoes Sub Junior competition was a bream. This had jackpotted and was worth $30. Ben Morgan was the lucky winner and he also won the sub junior competition for the outing. In the junior section Dylan Baldry was the winner, Helen Baldry the winner in the ladies, Allan Sandersan in the men’s and Barry Sandersan in the Veteran men’s.
We also had some fishos venture out to sea, some venturing out further than others. Daniel Morgan was the best of the Sub Juniors with a nice catch of snapper. In the Junior Boys section Chris Hayward made everyone envious when he weighed in his Harpuka Cod. This little fish pulled the scales down to 14.3 kilograms and I believe there were some stunned fishos out there when the fish surfaced beside the boat next to them. Scott Hawkins was the best in the Men’s section while Barry Sandersan won the Veteran Men’s.
Our October outing will be held this weekend starting at 3.30pm Friday afternoon with the weigh-in at 2pm on Sunday. The nominated species for the Sub-Juniors is a mullet. Everyone who is interested in our trip to Manilla in November could you please attend so that we can let Ski Gardens know some numbers for catering. Here’s hoping for fine weather calm seas and hungry fish. Catch you at the weigh-in.
