NHBC SOCIAL GOLF
Last Wednesday saw 23 die hard golfers compete in soggy conditions for a Single Stableford match. One of our members was so keen to get on the course he forgot to bring his clubs and had to hire some at huge expense! Heavy showers made for some soggy golfers and even soggier score cards. After wringing out the cards the A Grade winner was revealed as Trevor Page with a score of 32 points. Runner-up was Shane Madden with 30 points. B Grade’s best was Tom Sutherland with a score of 30 and Brian Johnston made runner-up with 29 points. Nearest the pin on the 5th for A Grade was Neville McCarthy and in B grade Bob Nixon did the job. Nearest the pin on the 8th in A Grade was Trevor Rose and Rick Bower (with hired clubs) took the ball for B Grade. Putting on flooded greens was a real challenge and best putting in A Grade went to George Butlin with 23 putts. B Grades best was Merv McLean with just 21 putts. Next week’s game will be a Single Stroke and the starters will be Rick Bower and George Butlin. Under these testing conditions we should try to play to our capabilities, not our aspirations!

U/14’s
The current underfeated, u/14 14 pace setters Riverview Service Centre had their first game back since the Christmas break on Saturday. The game was a one dayer against Port Sports Power under threatening weather at Inmon Field Laurieton.
The Havens after winning the toss batted first, openers Tyson Wiegold and Angus Makin had the team off to a steady start in the 28 over match. Angus was the first to fall for 11 with the score on 30. Hayden Clarke joined Tyson in the middle, and as they have done on numerous occastions had the score ticking over regularly. Tyson retired on 21, Hayden soon after retired on 20, Scott Dickson proved once again why he is rated so highly with the bat, knocking up 21 retired. Mitch Williams was looking good before being caught for 9, James Coskerie made 3 and Ben Gleeson remained 9 not out in the teams total of 4 for 123 off 26 overs.
In reply Port Sports Power looked dangerous with the opening batsmen scoring at will. Jason Buttriss was introduced into the attack with immediate success, Mitch Williams followed on from the other end picking up a wicket in his first over. The highlight was James Coskerie taking a brilliant caught and bowled in his first over, Oliver Grimson also picked up a wicket as the Port side falted a little to be 4 for 85 off their 26 overs, the win ensured the Havens remain at the top of the table. Next week is the big test, a two dayer against the other underfeated side, Port Saints at Stuarts Park.
