On Sunday the 15th of January 17 members played a (double handed 2 stroke switchback wheelbarrow??) game at Wauchope.
Winning team was Richard Pierce, Ryan Pierce, G Barr and Peter Page with 70 points. (With an extra man in the team this should have been adjusted to 52.5 points but we won’t go into that here.)
Second with 61 points were Tony Collins, Stefan Hamilton and J O’ Callaghan.
This team really excelled.
N. T. P. s went to Peter Connor 4th and 10th and Terry (the Treacherous ) Payne the 7th.
Phil (the Phantom) Tapping won the Lake Cathie meats prize.
Next game is 29th January at South West Rocks. Bus leaves club at 6 00 a.m.
President Gary Hinson will be leaving the club. The committee and members thanked him for his dedication and commitment which has seen the club placed on a very firm footing.
NHBC SOCIAL GOLF
Last Wednesday just ten brave souls fronted up in threatening conditions to play a Single Stroke match. As it turned out the weather cleared and provided a nice morning for golf. With the reduced numbers major prizes were limited to one grade and both winner and runner up were from B Grade. Best was Brian Hudson with a score of 59 and Roy Woolgar made runner-up with 60. Nearest the pin competitions for A Grade saw Roy Perry on the 9th and Neville McCarthy on the 12th. No one from B Grade made either green. Best putting for the day was by Peter Raschke with 24 putts to take out A Grade and Merv McLean won the ball for B Grade with 30 putts. Our next game on the 1st of February will be a Single Stableford and the starters will be Brian Hudson and Merv McLean. An away game is being planned for the 24th of February. This will be at Frederickton and transport will be subsidised by the club so it will be a good deal. Keep your eyes open for a starting sheet.
LUSC LADIES
SOCIAL BOWLS
Unfortunately we missjudged the weather last Wednesday so did not play bowls but 12 ladies turned up for morning coffee. In future we will be going out to Kew rain or shine & if not able to play bowls we will have various games or if any of you like, you will be able to play indoor bowls. The games will be cards or rummiking or any other games you would like to donate and we will be able to have coffee and lets hope scones. All the ladies who came to coffee on Wednesday were happy with the idea so lets hope to see you all over at Kew next week whatever the weather. As usual our wishes go to those of you who are not feeling too well. D&J.

Last weeks’ golf was reduced to a 9 hole event as the rain got heavier as we journeyed around the Wauchope course. Players were paired with someone of a similar handicap and an individual match play event was conducted.
In match 1, visitor Ron White won 4 of the first 5 holes to quickly put Tony Carroll out of his misery. This is despite Ron granting a couple of gimme’s even though he had no idea how poor Tony’s putting was. Ron finished 3 up.
In match 2, husband Alan Jackson did the diplomatic thing and allowed wife Jenny to record a victory to the tune of 2 and 1. Alan did mention that he was playing injured in that a branch fell on him during the week, when his wife was gossiping over the fence rather than assisting with some garden work.
Match 3 pitted David Middlebrook against Tom Scrine, both players recently undergoing “major” surgery.” This match included some excellent putting by both players - until the last hole. Tom was 2 up after 5 holes, but he missed a 1 foot putt on the last to allow David to win the hole and square the match.
In match 4, Brett Smith went to an early lead and actually won the match 4 and 2, but Ken was able to win holes 8 and 9 to save a little face and allow him to claim that he’d have won the match had the rain not curtailed play. Ken also claimed that Brett was extremely fortunate on the 4th hole after he “guttsed” his tee shot and his ball cannoned into the flag and saved it from going north of the 5th tee. Ken might ponder over the following important law of golf: “No matter how bad your last shot was, the worst is yet to come. This law does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a tournament, a summer or, eventually, a lifetime.”
Paul Potts’ consistency shone through in match 5, when he defeated Eric Wade by 4 holes (4 and 2). Paul had 48 off the stick for the round.
Craig Clark made a comeback of sorts after a 4 or 5 year absence and was all square with Mick Kennedy on the last tee. A booming drive by Craig enabled Craig to win the hole and the match.
In match 7, Tim Fox began with a great par to put Marie Carroll behind the eight ball. While Marie was able to regather 2 holes late in the round, Tim ended up winning by 3 holes. Marie Carroll began her round with some excellent drives, but the wet, soggy and long grass certainly slowed her ball down.
All the winners names were placed in a hat and the winner and runner-up for the day were drawn out. Jenny Jackson was the winner and the runner up was Brett Smith. For the losers (or non-winners), here is a thought about golf: “In primitive society, when native tribes beat the ground with clubs and yelled, it was called witchcraft. Today, in modern societies, it is called golf.”
Other commendable results were: MLD – T.Scrine, NTP – R.White, NTP(2) – R.White, LLD – J.Jackson.
The next event will be at Camden Haven on February 5. Play will begin at 7.30 and will be Stableford Pairs. The following event will be a bus trip to Wingham on February 19. Names should be placed on the noticeboard at the Tavern.

Sunday morning was overcast with the threat of rain looming, it didn't deter 13 starters for a single stableford (with mystery 7 holes to be deducted). After last weeks blistering round Mick's driver and putter had different ideas this week, Riddo was sinking a few great putts, the less said about my putting the better. With a bit of light drizzle early it was hoped we would get the round in. The first two groups just made it before the heavens opened, but as Mick predicted when our group was at the far end of the course on the 16th tee it poured, we managed to finish the hole, then run for cover, you should try putting on a green that's underwater!. Balls in A Grade to Josh for NTP on the 10th, no one on the 9th, Mick got longdrive. In B Grade NTP on the 9th to Tony G, NTP 10th and longdrive to Riddo. Ladies hole to me and 2nd shot to Josh. With a three way tie between Matt, Riddo and Phil, a countback was needed. The winner was Phil (becoming a regular occurence). After two weeks with the pink shirt Paul was thankfully able to pass it on to Bob. Some dates for the diary, day trip to South West Rocks on the 1st April and our trip away is to Hawks Nest on the 20th and 21st of October. Let's hope for a dry course this week, see ya Sunday. Headdown.

Sailing Club
After a keenly contested start Aqua Rodent (Rohan Nosworthy and Sophie Holt) surged to the lead up the first beat in a 12 knot SE breeze.
Senior's Moment was next around but was soon overtaken by the spinnaker carrying boats on the first reach.
Our newest entrant, Barry the Boat (Mark and Martina Holt) showed some excellent first race speed to finish second to Aqua Rodent (which had just returned from winning the MG 14 National Titles) . Next came Crackerjack (Warren Sykes and Monique). As this was the first time they had sailed together and set spinnaker's they did a great job finishing in front of The Scream this time being sailed by Chris Watt with Paddy Holt on trapeze.
Three other boats finished a little further back with Rumpus being forced to retire late in the race due to minor gear failure.
Altogether it was a great day on the water and with the quality of our fleet continuing to improve, racing can only get better.
It would be terrific if a competent boat handler with sailing interests and time to spare on Saturday afternoons could volunteer to start and finish our races.
