LUSC LAWN BOWLS

Last Thursday our bowls were cancelled due to the inclement weather, so bowlers don’t forget to renominate on the sheet or ring the bowls organiser if you want a game this Thursday. We wish all our members who are unable to bowl with us due to illness, the very best and we hope to see you all back at bowls in the near future. On the 12th February we will hold our first mixed Sunday Sausage Sizzle for the year. Bowlers who wish to participate in this popular mixed bowls event make sure you nominate on the sheet displayed on the bowler’s notice board at the LUSC. The cost for the day will be $12.00 per head which includes your bowls and Lunch, so dust off the missus and treat her to a great day of social mixed bowls. As usual the dress will be your LUSC Bowling club shirt or neat and tidy casual. Thursday men bowlers who have nominated to play in our championship triples are reminded to ensure that any unavailable dates you may have are supplied to the Chickenman so the matches can be organised to run efficiently. If you are in doubt concerning Thursday bowls being cancelled due to inclement weather please ring either the Kew Bowling Club or the LUSC after 11.15am for that information.

That is all

NHBC SCOCIAL GOLF

Our 2 Man ambrose scheduled for last Wednesday was stymied due to the decidedly damp conditions. Our next match will be a Single Stableford on the 8th of February. Starters for this game will be Neville McCarthy and Peter Raschke. Note that this game will be followed by our Annual General Meeting with election of all office bearers. This will be a good time to get your name in for our trip to Fredo on the 24th of February.

LUSC LADIES

SOCIAL BOWLS

Once more we were unable to play bowls due to the rain never the less we had an indoor games morning which was enjoyed by all. We had rummiking and a very interesting game brought by Irene and also indoor bowls so there was plenty of choice. Everyone agreed that it was a good way to spend a wet morning and we also enjoyed coffee & scones during the morning. Our usual good wishes back to any of our members not too well and hope to see you back soon. D&J.

LUSC SOCIAL GOLF

Another overcast (and humid) Sunday greeted 11 starters for a single stableford event. Given the rain we have had, the course was in pretty good shape, the greens were fast having been mowed before we started, some good scores were recorded and some average ones (playing for handicap I think, with the Al Hall Burgle for bucks on in a couple of weeks). Balls in A Grade to Mick NTP on the 9th and Paul on the 10th, longdrive also to Paul. In B Grade NTP on the 9th to TonyM and 10th to me, longdrive to Riddo. Ladies Hole also to Riddo. Winner on the day, after a countback was Glen with 31pts. Bob gets to keep the pink shirt for another week. I mentioned the Al Hall "Burgle for Bucks" earlier, this will be on Sunday week the 12th February. The game this Sunday will be a 2 man ambrose (depending on numbers). Thanks to Dave for doing the raffle last Friday. Don't forget South West Rocks on the 1st April, get your names down. See ya Sunday.

Saturday turned out to be a grey day, with a 10 knot NE breeze but without the forecast showers.

Five boats lined up for the start with Cracker Jack the first away.

Bernard the Boat having got over his identity crisis after being incorrectly referred to as Barry the Boat last week and Senior's Moment rounded the first mark neck and neck a short distance behind Cracker Jack. Then came The Scream and Castleton Marine.

On the first reach Castleton Marine, with its huge canary yellow spinnaker, reeled in the rest of the fleet to be first around the second mark, only to capsize a short time later.

This allowed Cracker Jack to regain the lead and it was not headed again. The 'B' boat maintained clear second place with The Scream and Senior's Moment swapping places several times, including several close encounters during mark roundings.

On the reach back to the club for a beach finish, Senior's Moment was overtaken, first by The Scream and then by Castleton Marine, to finish last but not disgraced.

The final placings were Cracker Jack (Warren Sykes), Bernard the Boat (Mark Holt), The Scream (Paddy Holt), Castleton Marine (David Castleton) and Senior's Moment (Fynn Marshall).
