CH EAGLES
JUNIOR LEAGUE
Welcome to the 2012 footy season for the Mighty Camden Haven Eagles Under 8's. Firstly let me introduce you to the team, there is Levi Berry, Rhys Hanlon, Jake Paterson, Dane Chapman, Izach Dennis, Aaron Coulter, Bryce Cook, Blake Steep, Jaspa Calicetto, Daniel Obrien, Cooper Crouch, Ethan Crossfield and Harry.
The season kicked off with a Gala Day at Port Macquarie, The Eagles first game was against the very strong Taree Rovers. The boys were as eager as can be, Rhys Hanlon and Dane Chapman topped the tackle count with five completed tackles closely followed by Izach Dennis and Aaron Coulter with three. The hit ups were won by a very determined Aaron Coulter with five closely followed by Dane Chapman with four. The boys battled hard and strong to get over the try line and Rhys Hanlon, Ethan Crossfield and Bryce Cook all managed to put the ball down over the line. There was some great play to be seen on the field, Jake Paterson and Blake Steep showed some very fancy footwork, Jaspa Calicetto, Levi Berry and Harry were darting through the opposition and Cooper Crouch showed some strong powerful runs right up the middle. The boys played a great game of footy but it wasn't meant to be and Taree Rovers only just came out on top.
The Eagles second game of the Gala day was against the Port Breakers which is also a very strong team.
The tackle count was won by Rhys Hanlon with 17 tackles in total closely followed by Blake Steep with 11 and Jaspa Calicetto completed six. The hit up count was won by Rhys Hanlon with 5 closely followed by Jake Paterson, Ethan Crossfield, Cooper Crouch and Blake Steep with three each. Tries were coming thick and fast and once the boys had the taste for it there was nothing stopping them. Rhys Hanlon crossed the try line three times, with Levi Berry, Dane Champan and Ethan Crossfield with one each. Bryce Cook and Harry showed some great turn of speed, Aaron Coulter and Izach Dennis were strong in defence. The Camden Haven Eagles were back to their usual form of last year with an impressive win against the Port Breakers team. Keep it up boys, Well Done!!.

Bonny Hills Beach
Hotel Social Golf
Sixteen players participated in an individual stableford competition at a neat Wauchope Golf Course on Sunday. The comfortable winner on the day was Stan Neall with 52 points. He reckons he plays 99 ordinary rounds waiting for this one special round. For once, he sat back in his chair at the club (with a smile of satisfaction on his face) without any whinges or complaints.
“Golf’s a hard game to figure… One day you’ll go out and slice and shank, hit into all the traps and miss every green. The next day, you go out and, for no reason at all, you stink.” Stan needs to keep in mind the 2nd law of golf: Your best round of golf will be followed by your worst round ever. The probability of the latter increases exponentially with the number of people you tell about the former round.
The highlight of his round was the 7th hole. He duffed his tee shot and then holed his 60 metre chip for a double points “2 a ten”. Not wanting to impede any following players from getting their ball into the hole, Stan placed the marker a metre from the hole. When Roley Whitehead played the 7th he “gutsed” his chip, but instead of flying over near the 4th green, his ball hit the marker and finished 2 metres from the 7th hole – very fortunate!
The runner-up was Tim Fox, who played some fantastic shots for a bloke on a handicap of 40. On the par 5, 11th hole, he hit a booming drive, followed that with a great fairway wood shot which finished at the back of the green. His eagle putt just missed so he tapped it in for a birdie. This whole was worth double points which gave him a “four a ten”.
Others who broke their handicap were: Paul Potts (40), Roland Whitehead (39), David Middlebrook (39), Brett Smith (38) and Craig Jennings (38). The Bradman Award went to Kevin Bourne and Eric Broadbent, who both claim that “the best wood in their bag is their pencil.”
Roley suffered a severe lack of confidence in the middle of his round. He tee’d up on the 10th with a second ball ready to go if he duffed his shot into the pond. Sure enough; straight into the drink and before his ball had reached the bottom of the pond, he had his replacement on his tee ready to go.
Other winners on the day were: Marie Carroll – LLD, Paul Potts – NTP(4th) and MLD, Stan Neall – NTP(7th).
After accusing others of poor etiquette and hitting up on to groups in front of them, Mick Kennedy was “alleged” to have done the same on Sunday. Evidence is yet to be produced!
The next event will also be at Wauchope on April 15. This will be a Flag Race beginning at 8am. This will be followed on April 29 by a game at Kempsey.
LUSC MEN’S
SOCIAL GOLF
A glorious Sunday saw 16 players on the bus heading to South West Rocks, with our normal 'on bus' entertainment missing, the trip up was a quiet one. The draw for partners had the first group, Josh/Matt and Mick/TrevB, then Chang/'HJ' Phil and Paul/Neil, then Trev/Rod and Ruddo/Billy, last group was Flange/TonyM and Riddo/TonyG. It was an average start for the first two groups with no one able to land on the fairway. After an early 'dust up' between Chang and 'HJ' they settled down and started playing some good golf. In the other groups Josh and Matt were hitting some great drives, Mick and TrevB were doing it tough, so were Ruddo and Billy, Rod and TrevS were sinking some monster putts and the last group were just enjoying the day. A great course and a great day. After golf it was back to the club for a smorgesboard and a few ales. The bus trip home was a bit noisier with TrevS shouting the bus after a win at the Club. All we could hear was the booming voices of Matt and the Woolgoolga 'Turkey' trying to make a point about, well I have no idea!. Through all this Ruddo managed to grab '40 winks'. Balls to, Matt on the second(donated by Chang, thanks), A Grade NTP's to Paul and Josh, longdrive to Josh, B Grade NTP to Flange and longdrive to Riddo. Vouchers to Riddo for Ladies Hole and to Josh for a second shot a pro would be proud of. The winners on the day were Matt and Josh, runners up were Chang and 'HJ'. NAGA went to Mick and TrevB, given Trev had a bung shoulder I think the NAGA should be Mark and Billy. Back at home this Sunday and without daylight saving it will be back to normal tee off time. See ya Sunday. Headdown.
