Sports round-up

LUSC Social Golfers

18 starters for a single stableford in conjunction with the semi-finals of the single match play. The winner on the day in the single stableford event was the Tank Engine continuing his solid recent run of good form. (Shots will be slashed...!)

The big Blue Engine also took out the semi-final of the single match play, taking out Dunne 4/3 with Crossie winning the other semi-final 4/3 over Al Jones. After a toss of the coin, Thomas will play Ted in the elimination final to be held this Sunday. It was a done deal for the closest to the pins in A-Grade, 9th to Brian Dunn, 10th to Ben Dunn and Long-Drive to Ben Dunn. Well done to the Kendall connection!

B-Grade, 9th hole was Kaine Faddy (good shot considering he did not know where it went), 10th hole was no-one. The Long-Drive was to the big hitting Mark Rutho. The ladies hole to Joanne (he does not know if he is a rabbit or a tiger) Sheargold. The Killa with the second shot.

The naga went to everyone's favourite Milko – Dairy Dave! (PS. We need more feta).

Kevin Buckley kept up his good form with 1.5 air-swings.

Dates to remember: 16th October (Battle of Hastings, Teams of 8);

Thanks also to Dairy, Kev, John & Ian for another huge effort running the raffle for the Club.

(PS From Smithy: Where have you been John, I miss you).

Queens Lake Sailing Club 24/9/05

The second heat of the Sprint Series saw another lovely day for sailing, although once again the breeze was light and fading.

Escape (Grant Bernasconi) showed superior speed in all three races but was only able to overcome his handicap in the final race of the day.

I Dotter (Rob and Heather) showed great light weather skills, winning the first two races and finishing second in the last on corrected times.

Overall i Dotter won from Lightyear (John Casimir) and Rumpus (John and Merridy Hudson) despite John falling overboard in an over-enthusiastic mark rounding. Then came Escape, Bumsteer, and No Symmetry.

In the juniors, Buzz (Tom Casimir) narrowly defeated Something (Paddy Holt).

Although the wind was light, the racing featured several very close finisheboth on scratch and corrected times. Perhaps next week will be the perfect 15 knot Nor'Easter all sailors long for!

Hey, why not turn up just in case.

The next race is the third heat of the Spring Pointscore and will feature a handicap start. This will give some of the slower boats an opportunity to experience leading the fleet, at least for a while.

LUSC Snooker

There are only 11 weeks left in this years pts comp. Both Tuesday and Thursday have been sponsored by various identities from our local area and the committee takes this early opportunity to thank them all. We hope to see you all at our Christmas party. Members who were at last years party can tell you its not to be missed. Punch and Judy Roelandts of "Haven Lee Cruises" go out of their way to make all their trips ones to remember.

Results Tuesday "The Kunze" v GP Palmer. Say no more there was no love lost when these two put their heads down. Glen gave a bit of start but GP would just love to reverse that situation and has the talent to do just that. Trouble is work comes before play "The Kunze" makes his run for the prize money. Minor final "Lady Thea" gives start of a different kind. The young "David O'Hara" is a player who is learning fast, wins this game but the lady will be back. Our "Golfer Man" Cookie just keeps coming up with the entertainment. This time the tale of two locks one key and two cue holders guess which one Col put his cue in (not his that's for sure). Is that what they call an air swing. Last Thursday Major Final and "The Farmer" covers the locks (well done). But the Gin Gin Farmer reckons how can you see the time with a cover over it. "The Poet" downs the Farmer but Keith takes the pts comp lead. Not only that he stopped Glen Kunze in a semi final thriller. The Minor Final: Ron "Angel" Howell showed Jimbo the exit door but Jim gets his priorities in order something a lot of us should do. Members who play 12 nights this year will be at the Christmas party. Will you qualify? Will you put your cue in the right holder, maybe you will laugh but what ever happens you will have a good night.
