PJ’s Happenings is the centre of all things social and cultural in the Camden Haven. If you’re at a loose end chances are you’ll find something great to do or see by glancing through Peter’s column.
“People are surprised by just how much goes on in the Camden Haven,” Peter said.
PJ’s started ten years ago as an entry of 12 events. Peter’s friends in the Streets Ahead committee roped him into starting the column as a way to publicise events for visitors to the area. The group saw a gaping hole in the community’s social structure and the column was a way to bring groups and events together, give publicity and encourage people to get involved.
“People at the Visitor Information Centre at Kew had no list of events to show visitors,” Peter said.
“A diary of the Haven was put together. I was put up for it because I enjoy computers.”
That was 500 editions ago.
PJ’s Happenings in the Haven now boasts 54 entries and Peter has each edition down to an art. He said it takes him about two to three hours a week to complete and submit to the Courier.
“I enjoy doing it and I’m happy to keep going if it helps people,” Peter said.
If you have a club, society or a “Happening” to include in PJ’s please phone Peter on 6559 8911. If your entry is suitable it will be included in the column free of charge.
