The Camden Haven Bombers celebrated two major milestones last weekend and the re-birth of the junior club in a weekend of AFL action.
Owen Geard and James Wright joined an elite club of Bombers to reach the 50-game milestone and both produced spirited displays in the red and black.
Geard played a blinder for the Bombers in Saturday in the Under 18s but it wasn’t enough as the Bombers went down 11.12 (78) to 6.3 (39).
Best players for the Bombers included Damian Sewell who produced his best game of AFL, Andy Stokes who never gave up, Wil Wright who gets better each game along with Geard and new recruit Jordy Verey.
On the Saturday the club applauded James Wright’s 50th but equally important was the large numbers in attendance both on and off the field.
The Under 11s started the day undermanned but thanks to the generosity of Macleay, they fielded a strong side with great performances from first-timer Caleb Moss, Reuben Gammon was solid, Blake French made s stunning debut and Ben Coskerie was as ferocious and determined as ever.
The Under 13s got within 3 goals at three-quarter time before going down by 5 goals to a well drilled Macleay outfit.
Jye West had a blinder and Matt Coskerie was as courageous as anyone on the day.
Joel Barton showed he won’t be out of place in the higher age group while Callum Vanderant, Ben Morgan and Trent Clarke were rock solid.
The Under 15s gave a good showing in their opening game but Macleay took the game by the scruff of the neck around half time to run out comfortable winners.
Ari Vanderant, Hayden Clarke and Trent Finch were heavily involved but it was stunning AFL debuts in this age group from Jared Taylor, Josh Kelly and Nathan Cameron that had the crowd talking.
This weekend the Under 18s travel to Sawtell’s Richardson Park and will be keen to see the improvement from the likes of Lachy White, Luke Raymond and James Coskerie continue.
There will also be a MASTERS FOOTBALL display and if anyone over the age of 35 is keen to participate please contact Chris Wright on the number at the end of this story.
On Sunday May 6 there will be a Junior Footy Bye for Camden Haven Bombers but the club will be helping out at the Ironman Function and a further 20 volunteers are needed.
To enquire about the club or Masters football phone Chris Wright on 0408 000 701 and to volunteer for the Ironman, contact Gordon Wiegold on 0418 266 700.
