Now for another challenge ...

A FIELD of over 200 is expected to face the might of North Brother Mountain in the 2012 King of the Mountain Fun Run.

Organiser Nathan Pensini said the event has attracted interest from keen runners from as far away as Penrith.

“Unfortunately last year’s King of the Mountain winner Ben Abell is unable to attend to defend his title,” Mr Pensini said.

“Last year’s Queen of the Mountain, Dr Kylie Lucas, will be ready to defend her crown on June 17.”

Major sponsor LJ Hooker Laurieton is putting up a generous prize pool for the winners. $500 each for the King and Queen of the Mountain, $250 for the Prince and Princess and prizes for the winners in each age category.

“We’re also challenging local organisations to throw down the gauntlet to each other, police versus ambos perhaps, just to add that fun element of competition,” Mr Pensini said.

Entry cost is $20 per adult and $10 per child. All proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

A bus will transport spectators up the mountain and transport both runners and spectators back down.

Registration is at 8am at the foot of North Brother Mountain and the race begins at 9am - Sunday June 17. It’s a five kilometre race with an elevation of 482m.

Entry forms can be found at www.portmactriclub.com.au, www.laurieton.ljhooker.com.au and www.camdenhaveninfo.org.au. For more information contact Nathan Pensini on 0402 068 186.
