It was a hard fought battle against the Lake Cathie Raiders at home this weekend. The Eagles put up a strong and sustained defense, however the Raiders scored two tries in the final third which gave them a win.

The Eagles defence is doing a great job. Hayden came out in front of the tackle count with 13. Others included Tim 6, Jackson 3, Moses 3, Zane 3 and Riley 4. Again there were 8 or more tries with at least 3 players involved. Some players who didn't have an individual tackle this week were involved in those team tackles. A lot of the game was played in the Eagles half, and the defensive line had to reform many times. This was done quickly, and the line was well spread out across the field.

Tim and Hayden did a great job at dummy half and first receiver. Hayden spread the ball among the big runners - Moses 11, James 7, Zane 7, Kai 7, Jason 7 and Riley 12. Supporting runners included Tim 4, Connor 3 and Jackson 4. The boys were hitting solid defense from the Raiders who were very strong up the middle. The Eagles continue to bunch around the play the ball area and were not able to get wide of the Raiders defensive line to gain the field position needed to get across the line more often. Tries were achieved by Hayden and Kai, and Hayden converted one try.

There were a number of highlights. James and Jackson were able to jump on two loose Raider balls and regain possession for the Eagles. Riley pulled off a big tackle after a Raiders player got free from the defensive line and was streaking to the try line. Hayden and Connor teamed up to bring down another Raider’s player who was rushing for the try line. Hayden threw himself at the Raiders ankles causing a stumble, which allowed Connor access to finish off the tackle.

It was a tough game and was neck a neck until the last third when the Raiders were able to get ahead and win the game. Well done boys.

CH REDBACKS

JUNIOR SOCCER

Redbacks Girls U12

We all travelled to Forster again this week to play against the Greenpoint Rovers who until then were undefeated. What a nail biter, our hearts were in our throats until the full time whistle. Another great result from our wonderful team of girls who won 2-1, we are all very proud of you.

Brittany Jolly scored the first goal of the game and continued to have a solid game as always. Emily McKenzie scored the second goal and had an awesome game, well done Emily.

Our backs were awesome and held their defence through the entire game, well done girls. Great improvement to Chloe Bell in the backs. Leaah Brown’s tumble was very effective in stopping the opposition advancing but resulted in her sitting off with an injury.

Great pressure from all our forwards for the entire game and Hannah Morson was all over the game as always. Great result and well done to all the girls. A special Thank You to the parents for travelling down 2 weeks in a row and for supporting the girls.

If anyone is going to be unavailable for a Saturday game could they please let Fran or Allan know by Friday night. Thanks everyone.

It is expected that nominations forms for all committee positions should be available from the Secretary within the next week or so. This weeks match against Camden Haven was a hard fought tussle between two evenly matched sides, both teams moving up quickly and limiting room to run. Aston called the plays well and scored a magnificent try in the corner, putting the ball down over the line whilst still in the air! Noah again displayed his quick running skills putting pressure on the Eagles when they had the ball.

Ewan did well in dummy half and in the forwards, running the ball hard and straight. Ewan backed up Joe L to pick up a great try in the corner, although he didn’t make the conversion his powerful boot saw the posts breaking.

Joe Black scored a tough try with the old sneak; well done mate! Mitch was again consistent in defence, he also made a few great runs, one resulting in a try and picking up this week’s man of the match medal.

Joe L again showed his strong tackling and solid running skill. David, Hudson, Max, Matthew and Lachlan all had good games, making ground with the ball.

Remember boys ‘play as a team and you will win as a team’. See you all at training on Thursday.

A chiily Sunday morning found 14 starters at a soggy Royal Kew for Phil’s favourite game of Stableford Multiplier. A couple of visitors out for a hit in Drew G and matt - hope you enjoyed the morning boys. After a slow start, Dairy and my game didn’t improve and we brought Bob and Ruddo down to our level to be fighting it out for the NAGA award. Tony M was leaving little messages on the greens - the only thing funny about him is his choice of head apparel. Drew G had a good morning taking the balls for NTP on the 9th in A grade as well as longdrive. Trevor cleaned up the rest of the balls in A grade as well as the ladies hole and 2nd shot. In B grade Tony M on the 9th, Dairy the 10th and Bob the longdrive. The course being boggy made scoring difficult. (That’s my excuse anyway). After a mix up with the cards and after much deliberation, Tony M and Billy were awarded the vouchers just in front of Paul and Pepe. Dave and me will be pretty in pink next start. A couple of dates to remember - July 29 our bus trip to Harrington and August 5 is Bato’s day.
