Horse racing plays a prominent role in the heart and soul of rural Australia. When you hear the thundering hoofs of the thoroughbred meet the fresh country turf, racing truly comes alive.
The Camden Haven Cup race day, which used to be a Lions Club fundraiser, has a new team working behind the scenes to make it a success. After a disappointing wash out last year, organisers are keen to make the 2012 event a day to remember.
Race day is set down for Saturday September 1.
Event spokesperson Karen Pini promises punters and spectators a fabulous day out, complete with all the colour and excitement of thoroughbred racing.
Six races will feature at the Port Macquarie Race Course, including the prestigious Camden Haven Cup.
All are encourages to dress up for the occaision to be in the running for a cash prize and gift basket in Fashions in the Field.
Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed lade, best dressed gentleman and best dressed couple.
If you want to be associated with one of the region’s best race events, sponsorship and naming rights opportunities are still available.

Tickets will soon be available for $35 includes course entry, race book, bus transport to and from and a light lunch. Buses will pick up from various locations from Kendall, Kew, Laurieton, Dunbogan and North Haven. Tickets will be on sale from Monday July 16.
