The Camden Haven Junior Boardriders club was well represented at the State Titles held in Coffs Harbour recently.
The competitive surfing world is extremely professional today and our surfers ripped, matching it with the best. It requires and enormous commitment from the surfers to compete at this level.
Congratulations to Marcus Willock, Laura Bridle, Ellie Muir, Ben Howard and Danny Schouten.
The July competition was held in fun, clean waves that got better and better as the morning progressed. Huey the surf god continues to smile on the micro groms and grommets.
They have a little channel to get out the back and then enjoy some of the best, healthiest fun of their lives. It’s hard to believe, watching them slip across walls of green. Many parent spectators wish they could do it themselves. They are totally fearless.
The Cadets ranks have grown considerably this year, much in part to the fantastic support of our new female surfers. They have brought a whole new dimension to the club. They judge, encourage, laugh, tease and have a ball competing against the boys. The Final was taken out by quickly improving Judd Brown. The little 12 year old spent a month in Bali and is developing a very impressive, radical style. Harry Hiatt, Kai Mackenzie and Lachie Kelly are snapping at his heals.
The Juniors enjoyed the return of Ben Howard. The diminutive 15 year old punches out bigger moves than Brad McCarthy on presentation night. When his mind is on the job he can surf with the best of them. Danny Schouten took the final. He is a great example for the other kids and we wish him the best in the Australian Surf Festival being held this month.
