The LUSC Friendship Quilters took on the challenge to create a meaningful and beautiful block which was presented to the Laurieton RSL Women's Auxiliary recently.
As the block was unveiled by quilters president Sally Hart, auxiliary president Helen Keevers' emotional response left her speechless.
Three members of the quilting group, Helen Millard, Sandra Stuckings and Robyn Sashoua, designed and made the block over many hours.
After showing other members of the auxiliary the block, Mrs Keevers had recovered to say to the quilting ladies, "It's just gorgeous. I've seen some of the other blocks and this is up there with the best of them."
Liverpool Quilters with make the Lest We Forget quilt and accredited valuers from Canberra Quilters will value the finished product.
The quilt is being raffled with the winners drawn November 1 which marks the day Australian troops left for Gallipoli 100 years ago. Money raised will go to the RSL service's charity Defence Care which helps military personnel to recover from physical and mental wounds.
Mrs Keevers said the response from quilting groups from NSW has been overwhelming and may lead to the creation of two quilts, one to be raffled and the other to hang in the war memorial in Hyde Park Sydney.
