Jonas, bronze medallist at the London Olympics, was "lightyears ahead" in experience compared to Laurieton's Shelley Watts. Commentators remarked about Shelley's "inexperience" coming from a "sleepy holiday hamlet of Port Macquarie". They almost got it right....
As Shelley's fitness, energy and passion burst from the sound of the bell, the commentators changed their tune, surprised by her power versus her highly qualified opponent.
"Nothing that Jonas has done has really impressed her," said one commentator.
"Jonas isn't being allowed to find space. Nothing is unanswered. Terrific energy level from Watts."
Jonas had strong support in the crowd. Shelley lost the first round, then tied it up in the second. She won the third. In the fourth Jonas stepped up her game. But it wasn't enough.
"Fire has been answered with fire," said the commentator.
The Boxing Barrister, as the international media have dubbed Shelley Watts, is through to the next round.
Shelley takes on Isabelle Ratna from Mauritius at 1.15am Thursday Australian time.
