Organisers were up early to assess the conditions in the hours leading up to the race.
While the rain is welcome and needed in the Camden Haven, the early storm meant the postponement of the run.
The event is a major fundraiser for the Camden Haven Surf Lifesaving Club and also raises funds for Cycstic Fibrosis.
Hundreds were expected to take on the run up Big Brother but the prevailing weather conditions - including thunder and lightning - meant organisers had to hold off on running in the event.
“Just rain would have been ok,” said Camden Haven Surf Club president Glen O’Brien.
“But with the number of people and the trees, the presence of lightning would impact the safety of the runners and volunteers. We apologise for this inconvenience.
"Sponsors and supporters are excited about the new date and hope to see better weather on the day.”
The event has been rescheduled for September 7 (Fathers Day - so get out and run with your dad!), subject to police approval. Online registrations have reopened. All who registered previously are still in the system, any new entrants are welcome to register.
Regular updates will be posted on the Camden Haven King of the Mountain Facebook page and the Camden Haven Courier website.
“We hope to see many dads tackling the mountain with their families for a great day out with the chance of winning a five-night Gold Coast Holiday with unlimited theme park access and $300 fuel and many more prize,” Glen said.
