Our last home game of the regular season and hopefully the last time we perform like we did.
Thumped 4-nil by the league leaders on a wet and gloomy day. The loss drops us out of third spot and into fourth.
Now our last game is away to Kempsey Saints who sit in fifth and could move into fourth if they have a win over us.
Hopefully the return of three key players will give the Redbacks more stability from here on into the semis.
There is a bus leaving the LUSC at 11.30am on Saturday, $15 a head for a laugh a minute trip to Kempsey and back.
REDBACKS RESERVE GRADE V WALLIS LAKE
This week we played front runners Wallis Lake in a top versus bottom encounter. The first half was a great contest and gave no indication of where both teams were placed on the ladder.
In the 12th minute the Reds took the lead after a clever touch from Charlie Moffat found Toby Otto on the edge of the six yard box who belted it past the keeper for a 1-0 score line.
At the 26th minute mark Lakes equalized, after what appeared to be a blatant push on our defender in the box.
What followed shortly after was our best football of the season and a golden two minute for Tristan Bonney.
In the 31st minute Tristan pounced on a through ball, outpaced the defense and slotted a nice finish past the advancing Lake's keeper for a 2-1 lead.
A minute later another nice through ball found Tristan at the top of the box, he turned and pumped a rocket past the keeper and we were up 3-1.
The score remained 3-1 at the break and we were on the verge of a major upset. Lakes as expected came out firing in the second half and we appeared to sit back and go into our shells. At the 46th minute mark Lakes pulled one back after a corner and a scramble in the box.
Wallis gained confidence after this and came at us hard. After numerous raids on our goal and some great clean-up work at the back we were able to weather the storm and came away with a memorable win. A great team effort lads, shows what potential we have. Special mention to Charlie Moffat whose leadership on the day was invaluable.
Next week we play our final game of the season away against Kempsey Saints.
