The Westport Club hosted a presentation on Thursday to present the 2014 recipients with their funding.
Jenny Edmunds, who chairs the Committee, said "the ClubGRANTS Program provides much needed funds for worthy and very important groups in the Port Macquarie-Hastings area to continue their crucial community work".
"This injection of funds demonstrates the strong and active connections our local clubs have to the community. The Program enhances our clubs' role and adds value to the wonderful assistance these groups provide to our community."
Clubs play a vital role in contributing funds to support the economic and social wellbeing of the Port-Macquarie-Hastings area. This investment of over $100,000 represents only a percentage of the annual contribution clubs return locally through their CLUBGRANTS programs.
The grants will help to support the tireless work of volunteer services that are ready to help any person no matter what the situation. Suicide is very topical at present but the volunteers councillors at Lifeline Mid-North Coast have been working towards making ours a suicide safer community for years. Their grants of $4,100 will educate member of our community in LivingWorks ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) which is considered the best suicide intervention training in the world.
Ryley Batt, who has just returned from leading the Australian team to gold at the 2014 IWRF World Championships, will be accepting a grant on behalf of Wheelchair Sports NSW. The grant will fund a program that breaks down barriers for local disabled athletes so they are empowered to participate and reach their full potential in a sport.
Other grants will fund the Family Drug Support's Stepping Stones to Success program; provide two schools with a "Reading for Life" program designed to give one-on-one support to primary school children with reading difficulties; and provide support to families in Port Macquarie and Laurieton through St Vincent de Paul's welfare programs.
