"Grandparents play a significant role in our homes and our community," the Member for Port Macquarie, Mrs Leslie Williams said.
"Many grandparents are unpaid carers, while others may still work or volunteer in the community. Whatever it may be, their commitment to support their families and local community is invaluable, and this is a great opportunity to recognise them.
"I urge everyone, whether you're a grandchild or someone who is simply thankful for the priceless role older Australians play in our society, to celebrate them by nominating someone for an award."
Nominations for the Grandparent of the Year Awards will close on Friday, September 26. The categories are Grandparent Carer of the Year, Community Grandparent of the Year and Grand Friend of the Year.
The Grandparent of the Year Awards will be announced on Grandparents Day, October 26 by the Minister for Ageing, John Ajaka. More information on how to nominate can be found on grandparentsday.org.au or via contacting awards@grandparentsday.org.au.
