With some expert, albeit quick, guidance from Commonwealth Games gold alumni Daphne Shaw, Shelley kept her powerhouse right hook in check to the applause of the crowd as the bowl did what it was supposed to do and pulled up just past the jack.
The carnival was officially opened by club chairman Gary McLoughlin who heaped praise on Shelley’s achievements before surprising her with a cheque for $1000 to help fund her world title bid in South Korea next month.
The ten-day carnival attracts more than 1500 bowlers and is a massive economic boon for the area.
