Glamps seem to be getting smaller, more intimate. Anthology, which runs Wildman Wilderness Lodge in the Top End, recently opened 15 spacious new safari tents on a redgum-riddled bush property owned by Wilpena Pound Resort, 400 kilometres from Adelaide. Each airconditioned tent at Ikara (the Adnyamathanha name for Wilpena Pound) is designed to keep cool in summer and warm on chilly outback nights and has a king-sized bed, en suite, enormous zip-open windows to let in light and views of the Flinders Ranges, and a timber deck purpose-built for sunset drinks. Tanja Lagoon Camp – Tathra, NSW

You can hear the rumble of the surf from Tanja, situated on a former dairy farm next to Mimosa Rocks National Park and just behind the beach at Tathra, 5½ hours south of Sydney. Tanja's three (soon to be four) tents are right on the edge of a lagoon, each with a handmade timber queen bed under canvas and an adjoining corrugated-iron en suite and kitchenette.
