She was known to many as the "little cowgirl".

Now, the tiny Mid North Coast community is reeling after a freak incident that claimed the two-year-old's life.

Georgia was playing on her family's rural property on Saturday morning when she was struck by a reversing truck and killed instantly.

Wauchope police said the incident was not suspicious but would not say whether the 28-year-old male driver was a member of the Lawson family, prominent livestock transporters in the Wauchope region.

The tiny town doesn't often attract the attention of police  and the community response has surprised residents.

Within less than two days of Georgia's death, residents of Beechwood and neighbouring Wauchope had raised a staggering $21,995 for the Lawson family.

By Tuesday afternoon, more than $23,000 had been raised.

Strangers, local families, Georgia's preschool, a local florist and the town's rugby league club were among those who contributed money to help her parents, Tom Lawson and Lana Jones, cover funeral costs and ongoing support.

Chalyce Shepherd, one of several friends who started the online fundraiser called Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, told Fairfax Media the community felt helpless at first.

"My heart is broken. The town is sad. I live at Beechwood and have to drive past [the property] everyday and I just cry," she said.

"I am a friend who felt helpless just like the rest of the community [and] wanted to do something. If only money would bring her back."

Several of Georgia's preschool friends donated money, saying they would miss the "cuddles" she would give out to her "play buddies".

Others posted "Rest in peace little cowgirl" and "Rest easy up in cowgirl heaven".

The Lawson family is well known around Wauchope and have been mustering and drafting cattle in the region for decades.

Patriarch Thomas Arthur Lawson has a memorial award in his name for the best led steer by a student at the Wauchope show.

Beechwood residents said they hoped their small acts of kindness would show Georgia's parents and baby brother that the community was behind them.

"Your little girl touched so many people, even ones that never met her," said one donor.

"You have an amazing community behind you to help carry you forward."

A police spokeswoman said a report is bring prepared for the Coroner, who will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"Police from Mid North Coast local area command are investigating the incident, however, do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances," she said.
