As the red and yellow patrol flags were lowered on the 2015/16 season, SLSNSW President Tony Haven AM and Director of Lifesaving John Restuccia took the opportunity to thank lifesaving volunteers via an open letter to all members.

It was a challenging season for local volunteers, who make up some of the State's 21,000 members patrolling beaches along the NSW coastline.

Consecutive hot days and the annual influx of tourists, along with an unusually warm autumn guaranteed a busy time.

From September to April there were over 5,000 rescues, 16,000 first aid treatments and 122,000 preventative actions reported in NSW.

The traditional end-of-season barbeque and beach games were enjoyed at Wauchope-Bonny Hills Surf Lifesaving Club last weekend.

Co-director of Lifesaving Michelle Kirkwood said she was pleased with how the season played out.

"Our club had yet another great season."

"The commitment and enthusiasm of our members makes patrolling an enjoyable experience."

Club president Peter Smith is also proud of all of the club's members and the community service they provide.

"Our club's fourteen patrols have put the flags up every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday from last September through till last weekend, which is a huge effort," Peter said.

"I would also like to thank the local community for their ongoing support."

"Planning has already commenced for a bigger and better 2016/17 season, and the famous red and yellow flags will be up again at Bonny Hills in September, just as they have always been since 1958".
