I went to Coles the other day and lined up with heaps of other shoppers, most of them my age or older waiting to be served by only one person serving at the empty checkouts. Of course the ‘serve yourself’ section was serviced by staff.

I spoke to the man serving us and he said that they were short staffed because some were off sick. Who the boofhead was that decided the self serve check out would be I good idea. Do they understand that to do so puts workers out of jobs?
I was always happy that young school leavers, mums, dads etc could work as checkout operators. I know many would consider me wrong, and ask anyone at Coles and they will all tell you that no one has lost their jobs, but I just don’t believe that.
Anyway, you won’t see me again. Woolworths from now on, and I hope that they never consider one of those silly self serve things there or I’ll have to shop further away.
