The Anacondas played Wauchope in an A Grade nail-biter on Thursday night. Full time saw the two teams locked at two-all, sending the game into penalty strokes. The Anacondas managed to put in 3 goals to Wauchope’s 2 goals.
On Friday night, the C Snakes (2016 Minor Premiers), just couldn’t get the ball past the outstanding defence from Wauchope, who secured victory 2-0 and a grand final spot. The C Snakes get a final chance this week when they play the men from Thunder.
A wet Saturday morning saw the junior Snakes in action with the U7 Baby Snakes followed by the U9 Red Bellies, then U11 Cobras. The U13 Boomslangs won and will advance into next week’s final against Thunder.
The B Grade teams, Vipers and Black Snakes both played on Saturday for a finals berth.
The ladies Vipers played Port City and, despite some great attacking runs and strong defence, lost to Port City. The Vipers have had an outstanding year in the local competition and many players gained representative spots in 2016 squads.
Late Saturday night, the men’s Black Snakes ran on against Wauchope. The game was played at a blistering pace. Full time saw the game level at 3-3 sending the teams into golden goal 10 minute extra time. For almost seven minutes the score remained locked until the Black Snakes managed to get the ball past the mighty Wauchope keeper to take the win 4-3.
On Sunday the U16 Venom faced Port City Avengers. The Venom played great, controlled hockey but just couldn’t manage a win going down 4-3 in the last 20 seconds and bow out of finals contention.
This week sees four Camden Haven teams in action all vying for a grand final spot.
