Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Brittain said a low pressure trough would be the impetus for a windy Thursday.

“That trough will move across the region from Thursday, creating plenty of winds – up to 30 kilometres per hour in some instances – and between 1 to 5mm of rain,” he said.

“Friday will feature a secondary trough, with slightly less rain and winds.

“The main weather feature of these two days will be the consistent high winds. The majority of rain will fall on Thursday, and easing off slightly for Friday.

“Our modelling shows that the system will clear out on Saturday, which looks to be pretty dry.”

Mr Brittain said more rain was expected to fall west of the ranges.

Temperatures for Thursday and Friday would be in the low 20s with minimums in the high single figures or low double digits.

Despite the increased winds, the swell will not be ‘that significant’ but it will still be quite uncomfortable out to sea, he said.

Sunday will feature a high pressure ridge with winds becoming much lighter and the maximum temperature climbing into the mid 20s.

“For early next week, it looks like a low pressure trough will be returning but our modelling cannot confirm its impacts at this stage,” he said.
