The special day was held on September 3 at the Kew Corner Store and included a silent auction, a colouring in competition and lucky dips.
There were also donation tins in the store. The total amount raised was $1,105.
Kew Corner Store owner Staffan Andler is also a volunteer at Riding for Disabled, so it was only natural he threw his hat into the ring.
“We wanted to do something for them because it’s close to home,” he said.
“I’ve been involved for five years and they do some great work.
“They relocated from the property they were on and into the showground, so these funds will help with the clean up and setting up at the new location.”
Creator and author of ‘Creaturmals’ Leanne Hill also played a big part, with readings from her popular book.
There were plenty of activities between readings with back-to-basics fun the order of the day.
There were sack races, face painting, egg and spoon races, a lucky dip and wheel barrow races.
The colouring in competition was won by youngster Max Parish while mum Melissa won the silent auction.
Plenty of food and fun inside and outside the store in the sunshine, with $2 from every coffee sold going towards the RDA.
“We are very happy to have worked with RDA and to have helped raise funds,” she said.
“Because it’s in a close knit community it is close to everyone. We love to participate in these kinds of things.”
The characters in the first Creaturmals book, Leon’s Big Adventure, have been developed over 16 years.
While the characters seem like two animals with completely opposing instinctual traits sewn together, their strength of personality shines.
“They represent fun, naivety, knowledge, sharing and caring,” Leanne said.
Five Creaturmal characters made an appearance at the Kew Corner Store for the ‘FUNDAY’.
They helped with running games and activities, posing for photos and encouraging gold coin donations for the Kendall Riding for the Disabled.
President of the Kendall Riding for the Disabled, Elizabeth Wallace, said they were overwhelmed with the support.
“I’m very happy to have received the money. Naturally the move has cost us a lot of money,” she said.
“We have been really overwhelmed by the people who have helped us. It has been amazing. I can’t thank everyone enough.”
