That's put him in the lead in week three by a big margin with his original $100,000 worth almost $130,000.

Some distance back is the Australian Financial Review's Phil Baker in second spot with $105,401.

This time its Niuminco Group, which operates a gold and silver mine in Papua New Guinea and tin and tungsten mines in Tasmania.

Amzalak's original $10,000 investment in Niuminco has grown to $20,000.

The other is tech company Syntonic, whose share price has doubled from about 2¢ over the past month.

Readers will recall that Amzalak took out the last series on the back of his investment in another speculative stock called Redchip, which provides the media relations for smaller companies trying to attract investors.  As with Redchip, it's been a very rocky ride for Niuminco and for Syntonic shareholders.

Since July this year Niuminco's share price has gone from something very close to zero to something closer to 1¢.

A speculative play that has not worked out so well is Hina Chowdhary's pick of Galaxy Resources, a global lithium miner, which has shrunk her $10,000 investment to $7,595.

The main reason its share price has gone from about 40¢ in July to about 30¢ appears to be a production delay and a negative report by a broker.

The Australian sharemarket moved marginally higher over the week to just over 5400 points.
