The Sydney-born entrepreneur, 25, who co-owns one of the world's largest swimwear marketing platforms, with over 1.8 million followers on her personal Instagram account, was quoted in an Australian tabloid on Friday as saying "everybody is doing it [retouching]". However, Oakley says she was "misquoted".

"I did not mention me photoshopping any images," she told Fairfax Media on Saturday. "We have had A Bikini a Day for five years and I am in a bikini doing this interview with you right now. I think that I expose myself more than any celebrity or role model in the world.

"I am on a beach in a bikini all around the world, so obviously there is going to be some drama that comes with that and people who are going to try and criticise that. I know my content.

"At the end of the day, I think it's about the bigger picture. Creating something that is more than just Instagram photos, so ... whatever."

In July, Oakley took on the Daily Mail for body shaming after they published paparazzi pictures alongside the snap she posted on social media from the same day, with the headline, "The magic of Instagram".

"I am a woman who is very happy, healthy and proud of her body," she wrote on social media at the time.

Despite the criticism, Oakley says 99 per cent of the feedback she and her best friend and business partner Devin Brugman receive is positive.

After meeting on Facebook in 2012, the pair launched the swimwear blog and Instagram account A Bikini A Day by posting daily photos of the pair wearing new swimmers from idyllic beaches across the world.

Now the media moguls and swimwear aficionados have a combined total of 3 million followers on social media, are feted at Miami Swim Weeks and have their own brands, Monday Swimwear and the recently launched Monday Active, which are among the reasons why she doesn't like to be referred to as a "model".

"I would prefer to say I am not a model, I would prefer to say I am a role model," she explained to Fairfax Media.

"I don't think you can just categorise me as just a model. I don't just fly around the world doing photo shoots. I am an entrepreneur, I have my own business, I am spreading a positive message.

"I do my best to be constantly positive and to send out a positive message to young women especially, so yes, I would like to say I am a role model, and someone that people can look up to."

Oakley returned from her base in LA to welcome summer on behalf of Seafolly with a morning yoga session on Bondi Beach. Over 80 people joined in the 7am class, followed by an uber-healthy breakfast of fresh fruits, green juices and coconut water, and free skin checks next door at Bondi's life saving club.

For someone who has adorned herself with thousands of bikinis in her lifetime, she said the iconic Australian brand just doesn't compare.

"The Seafolly range is so diverse and they really work on curves, so every suit fits my shape very well," she said.

Of course, there is also the patriotic factor.

"I love sharing with the rest of the world our Australian brands. Sometimes we are not recognised internationally because we are so far down here but I hope to spread the message and show off Australian culture. I also grew up with the brand, it's not something I found two months ago," she said.
