In reference to the letter “Doggone shame” 1 and 2, I see no great issue with dogs being at the Laurieton markets.

People seem happy enough to share the space with the little wags and can bee seen stopping to pat a furry hear, while having a friendly chat with the owners – especially children and people who love dogs but can’t have one – it’s nice.
I can’t say I’ve ever witnessed pooches perpetrating the dastardly and dangerous “leash tangling” maneuver, nor have I seen dogs going around “hassling” market patrons and generally making a “nuisance” of themselves.
Being the sentient creatures they are, they perhaps reserve this treatment for people who don’t like dogs?
After all, they are dash smart and have a great sense of fun.
I would suggest though, that dog owners think of their pets’ comfort and attend in the opening hours when it’s still cool and there are no great crowds.
Dogs, being closer to the ground, feel the heat more than us and crowds can be unnerving for some pooches.
But best of all, there are less cranky, disgruntled people around at that hour, just saying.
