Choosing a dance school or teacher can be overwhelming. Some will focus on dance as a recreational activity, others as preparation for a career, others as a fitness or social activity. Movement Studios in Laurieton ticks all these boxes.

For six years Movement Studios has coached dancers in various dance genres from tiny tots to seniors. The over 65 Visz Crew is one of the studio's most popular acts. When the crew hits the stage and works their hip hop moves, the crowd invariably joins in.
In 2017 a new team will assume the reigns. Studio owner Jo Rowan is turning her focus to dancer and sports rehab coaching in Port Macquarie. Jo is also stepping up her mentoring business Life Movements.
The Blackman family has purchased Movement Studios. Instructor Imogen Shoesmith is taking over as head teacher and manager.
"The feedback we have had from our students and their families has been overwhelmingly positive that the studio will continue on," Jo said. "Ted, Tony and Lisa Blackman will take care of the business-side of the studio ensuring a smooth transition for our students and their families as we kick off 2017."
Imogen has been a dancer for seven years and a teacher since 2014. She joined the Movement team in 2016 and assisted Jo in coaching local vet Gavin Rippon to success at the Hastings Stars Dance for Cancer event. Gavin's Michael Jackson routine earned him the Judges’ Choice Award and a perfect 10 score from celebrity judge Paul Mercurio.
Students can expect diversity of classes and knowledge thanks to new and existing teachers in 2017.
“Our core philosophy of health and fitness through conditioning the body and its alignment to create awareness of space and movement is our focus, while exploring the freshest take on choreography and ensuring dancers’ continued education, creativity and enjoyment,” Imogen said.
“Our classes will include urban hip hop technique and choreography, fresh contemporary styles, acrobatics, fitness training, and ballet technique classes. We are also exploring new ways for students to hone their skills and performance techniques by opening up a class for students who wish to perform at eisteddfods and our end of year show at the Glasshouse. This will help students explore every available platform of performance art.”
Leading classes in 2017 is Alison Walker who will be teaching private classes in hip hop and contemporary; Phoebe Kirkwood specialises in yoga, contemporary and urban funk; Georgia Smith will teach hip hop and contemporary; Imogen will specialise in contemporary and ballet technique, as well as hip hop and acrobatic classes.
